(About The Images)
Twenty 1887 Morgan dollars, all UNC. Twenty 1887 Morgan dollars, all UNC.
Lot Title: Twenty 1887 Morgan dollars, all UNC.
Description: Collector appeal: "C-". Clearly a put-together roll, variation of the degree of reflectivity in the fields suggest coins from multiple dies, helping explain that opinion. Most are white coins, though at least four offer some degree of toning, and unfortunately, a couple might certify as only MS-60 (if at all) due to very heavy abrasions. (PCGS# 007172)

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Low Estimate: $800.00
High Estimate: $1,200.00

886The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$825.00
Twenty 1887 Morgan dollars, all UNC.
These may have been compiled from a single original roll, since a couple of examples (as imaged) display rainbow coloration that could derive from end-of-roll toning. Typical quality as expected,...
887The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$800.00
1887 NGC Proof details/improperly cleaned.
NGC offers no opinion as to numeric grade, although the lack of actual circulation wear suggests PF-60, albeit with the caveat of excessive signs of cleaning. Of course, the vast majority of proof...
822The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$575.00
1887/6 (VAM-2) PCGS MS-64.
Seemingly more abraded on the obverse than usual for MS-64, as there are sizeable reed marks in the far left field and on Liberty's cheek, but the reverse is every bit of that grade if not more. A...
823The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$625.00
1887 NGC MS-66+.
Hands-down an end-of-roll coin, the obverse toning pattern shows the obvious silhouette of folded paper corners, resulting in an amazingly luminous pattern of brilliant cobalt-violet, jade-blue,...
905The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$330.00
1887 ANACS MS-65, and an 1881-S PCGS MS-66.
1881-S shows the usual blazing crystal-white luster overall, but a short crescent of vivid rainbow color visits the arc above Liberty's portrait. Interestingly, an utterly exact replica of the same...
906The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$180.00
1887 PCGS MS-65 (rattler).
Blatant status as an "end of roll" toner couldn't be more obvious, as the obverse has become fully clothed in a deeply saturated sea-green and aqua-gold pattern characteristic of a folded-over paper...
769The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$1,650.00
1887/6 PCGS MS-65.
VAM-2 Top-100. A strong underdigit suggests an early strike from these overdated dies. Not only is the requisite bottom loop showing strongly to the right of the 7, but the spike on the left and...
708The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$875.00
Twenty 1887 Morgan dollars.
While almost certainly a put-together roll, these are really nicely matched blazing white coins, above average overall in cosmetic appeal. A couple display minor evidence of toning, and it's always...
890The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$320.00
1887 (VAM-10) PCGS MS-66.
A really nice early die-state for VAM-10, the doubling beneath "18" is easily seen, and the various die scratches discussed by VAM all match up perfectly. On top of that, excellent preservation and...
670The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$1,600.00
1887/6 (VAM-2) PCGS MS-65.
As popular as the 1887/6 VAM-2 is, it may come as a surprise that only 12 have ever graded higher than MS-65 between the grading services. This is assuredly strong testament to the scarcity of the...
671The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$900.00
1887 NGC MS-67.
A blizzard of blinding white luster shimmers throughout all the fields, completely unimpeded by even the slightest hint of tone. As expected of MS-67, the surfaces are incredibly well preserved,...
713The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$500.00
Five 1882-S and fifteen 1887 Morgan dollars, mostly BU.
As one of the common dates well known for high quality, these 1882-S Morgans are all about as nice as expected, despite having been "put together", as shown by the edges. A quick glance suggests...
792The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,950.00
1887 PCGS MS-67.
Unaffected by even the slenderest hint of tone, the cotton-white surfaces exude amazingly consistent satin-fresh luster, supplanted by frosted texture on the peripheral stars and lettering. Without a...
612The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$550.00
Twenty uncirculated 1887.
One tube of dazzling, choice dollars, possibly transferred from an original roll. One coin has a vivid rainbow crescent.
613The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$925.00
Forty uncirculated 1887 Morgan dollars from rolls (now in sheets).
Two sealed tubes of Morgan dollars, apparently all 1887 and presumably uncirculated. Showing at the end of one tube is a coin that shows toning of epic proportions, so personal inspection is...
614The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,650.00
1887/6 PCGS MS-65.
The bottom of the underlying "6" is actually visible without a glass for those of us fortunate to possess decent eyesight, and the nice, early die-state ensures that remnants of the effaced digit can...
971The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$725.00
1887 NGC MS-65 DPL.
Luminescent and glowing with silvery brilliance. Liberty's cheek is clean, but as usual, the extremely reflective fields are prone to the effects of scattered minute abrasions.
972The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$190.00
1887 NGC MS-66.
Pearlescent luster energizes the eye appeal, and it's shimmer is gently suffused by a gossamer overlay of flax-gold toning that gathers noticeably at the rims. A moderate planchet void rests at the...
787The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$2,400.00
1887/6 VAM-2 NGC MS-65.
Though there are two years, 1880 and 1887, in the Morgan dollar series that are known to feature overdates, the 1887/6 is the only one for which the underdigit is reasonably visible without the aid of...
786The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$400.00
1887/6 PCGS MS-63.
Cataloged in the Top 100 VAM Varieties for this popular series as VAM-2. A white brilliancy radiates from its delicate, mainly white surfaces. Some marks and a few scuffs are noted for the...
787The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$800.00
1887/6 PCGS MS-64.
The overdate characteristic for this designated VAM 2 variety is quite distinct. It is considered by many to be an essential date to this series. A delightful brilliance radiates from the velvety...
814The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$1,075.00
1887/6 PCGS MS-64.
Listed as VAM-2, it is a highly collected issue within the Top 100 VAM Keys to this series. This particular specimen exhibits a white brilliancy over its satinlike surfaces. Minimal marks are...

These particular issues are toned with hues of either gold, russet, violet, blue, green, or blends of these colors. Surface marks and scuffs are consistent for this assigned grade level, and the...
