(About The Images)
Four U.S. silver type coins. A Three-cent piece, two half-dimes, and a dime, XF to AU. Four U.S. silver type coins. A Three-cent piece, two half-dimes, and a dime, XF to AU.
Lot Title: Four U.S. silver type coins. A Three-cent piece, two half-dimes, and a dime, XF to AU.
Description: Neat packaging into a quartet makes this an appealing group of silver pieces. Ascending by denomination creates a list as follows: 1862 3-cent silver (AU-58, or quite possibly a frosty MS-63 - it's tough to make this call), 1833 half-dime (XF-45), 1841 half-dime (AU-55), and 1874 dime (XF-40). Four coin lot.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Low Estimate: $400.00
High Estimate: $450.00

305The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,103.00
Seven U.S. silver coins certified by NGC, all improperly cleaned.
Albeit these do have silver content, but one might hope the premium well exceeds melt on this "NGC details" septet despite the "improperly cleaned" disclaimer given each. DETAILS grades are given as...
306The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$350.00
1920 Mercury dime, and a 1936-S Washington quarter, both UNC.
Trader Ed Collection. Simply stating "UNC" scarcely narrows down the grade range much, but closer examination shows that the 1920 dime should grade MS-64 with an extremely strong shot at "full bands....
307The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$350.00
1884 Morgan dollar MS-63/65, and a 1937 Washington quarter PF-63/63...
Large Capital Plastics holder with slip covers protect the coins. First is a 1937 proof quarter showing strictly original patina and some hints of cyan iridescence along the obverse right rim. ...
308The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$280.00
1952 quarter PF-65, 1954-S half-dollar MS-65+, and a 1963-D half...
Clem Stevens Collection. Vivid album tone encircles two-thirds of the fields for a 1952 quarter (PF-65), while bands of graceful denim-blue and cinnamon-gold encircle three-quarters of the obverse of...
309The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$775.00
1956 type 1 half-dollar PF-67, plus six additional Proof coins, all...
Clem Stevens Collection. The 1956 type-1 half-dollar in PF-67 could prove to be the jewel of this septet, as it is a difficult issue to locate in such high grade with surfaces that gleam in...
310The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$900.00
1913 quarter, and a 1928-S half-dollar, as described.
AU details seems like a pertinent assessment for each, as these have all the luster of "slider" type coins and just a hint of wear. Some strong coloration visits both, with the half-dollar showing a...
311The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$700.00
Eight U.S. silver type coins, as described.
As if plucked right out of someone's album type set, most of these are fairly brilliant for their respective grades, except that 1875-S/S 20-cent (XF) displays graphite-grey patina. The other coins...
312The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,350.00
Three certified Seated Liberty proof type coins, all impaired.
Steve Deckling Collection. Each of these is a so-called "problem coin", but that obviously doesn't keep them from being perfectly collectable at the right level. They may be enumerated as follows:...
313The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$475.00
Three Barber type coins with AU details.
Each gleams with very white surfaces -- too white in fact, as closer inspection shows hairlines from cleaning for each. These include: 1896 dime (looks basically UNC but the portrait shows shallow...
314The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$350.00
Four silver type coins.
Steve Deckling Collection. The surprise appearance of an ACCUGRADE slab includes a Hawaii half-dollar that actually seems compatible with the assigned XF-45 grade, and it is an exquisite, original...
315The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$425.00
1900 Lafayette dollar, and a 1909-D Barber quarter, as described.
Steve Deckling Collection. ANACS has curiously certified a 1909-D quarter as "AU/cleaned net AU-50", meaning... a zero point downgrade? The coin is overly brilliant with speckles of toning around...
316The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$475.00
1883 Hawaii dollar, 1921 Mercury dime, and a 1921 Peace dollar, as...
Steve Deckling Collection. Cleaning applies to each as suggested by the host grading company. This interesting trio lists as follows: 1921 dime (ANACS XF/cleaned net VF-30, has attractive color...
317The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$750.00
Collections of Washington quarters and Franklin half-dollars in...
Franklin half-dollars (1948 - 1963) reside in a beat-up old Whitman album, but the coins themselves are unexpectedly nice, and should average AU to MS-63 with album tone forming on numerous examples. ...
318The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$625.00
Four better silver type coins, as described.
An intriguing quartet of type coins includes one unexpected surprise. These list as: 1837 Feuchtwanger "one-cent" token (SURPRISE!) (XF-45), 1851 3-cent silver (AU-55), 1892 Barber dime (UNC), and...
319The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$600.00
Two certified Morgan dollars and two certified Franklin half-dollars,...
Bradford Pear Collection. Three dollars face comprise this quartet but will certainly sell for multiples of that ... unless the economy has REALLY gotten bad. A pair of Franklin half-dollars...
320The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,303.00
Four certified Uncirculated U.S. coins.
Brock Megran Collection. An intriguing little quartet offers certified eye-appeal at a highly approachable value level. A 1917 type-1 quarter (NGC MS-63) features an interesting splash of ice-blue...
321The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$370.00
1875-CC twenty-cent piece PCGS F-12, and an 1837 quarter NGC VF-20.
Brock Megran Collection. LIBERTY needs not be present on a 20-cent to warrant the Fine level, yet bold central presence suggests F-12 as the correct PCGS grade. This is an incredibly original...
322The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,400.00
1833 half-dime PCGS MS-62, 1872-S half-dime PCGS MS-63, and an 1837...
Brock Megran Collection. Type coins of high caliber have been brought together in this 19th century trio. The 1833 half-dime features very attractive, frosty violet texture overall, and exceedingly...
323The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$340.00
1883 Hawaii 10-cent PCGS VF-30 (green label), and an 1883 Hawaii...
Steve Deckling Collection. Hawaii coins pair up for this offering, both certified by PCGS. The dime offers generally very attractive original surface quality, but a small, slightly corroded oblong...
324The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$475.00
1935 quarter, 1928 Oregon, and 1944 half-dollar, all NGC MS-66.
A trio of very-gem silver coins gravitate together to create some nice eye-appeal. The quarter shows a touch of apricot-silver patina over fresh, gleaming surfaces, while the 1928 Oregon features...
435The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$425.00
Four U.S. silver type coins in David Hall flips.
Coins in David Hall flips always draw interest from collectors who are fascinated by the pedigree to one of the most powerful influences on the hobby over the past thirty years. Coins with the...
436The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$600.00
1818 Bust quarter NGC VF details/improperly cleaned, and an 1829/1827...
Evidence of cleaning for the quarter is scant to say the least, with nothing more than mild gloss apparent from the obverse. Well detailed, neither side shows any marks of consequence. The 1829/7...
437The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$360.00
1863 Seated quarter F, and an 1875-S twenty-cent piece PCGS XF-40.
Galesburg Collection. PCGS incorrectly identified the 20-cent piece as a quarter, but the assigned XF-40 is quite consistent with how the latter denomination is graded, and the reverse displays a...
438The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$360.00
1920 Mercury dime NGC MS-64 FB, and a 1920 Standing Liberty quarter...
The consignor elected to upgrade these two coins in his 1920 year set to full gem pieces, making these available for sale today. Both are very white examples displaying attractive luster, and the...
439The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$525.00
1821 Bust dime NGC XF details/damaged, and an 1874-S Trade dollar NGC...
Clem Stevens Collection. "Damaged" in reference to the 1821 large-date dime seems to consider innumerable extremely tiny contact points that are almost profuse enough to impart a corroded appearance....
440The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$625.00
Three quarters and a dime.
None of these have been certified, with Scotsman grade ESTIMATES given. A 1916 dime (MS-64 FB) leads off, showing some frosty magenta-gold and jade toning. A "Steve Ivy Numismatic Auctions" flip...
441The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$1,000.00
1841 Seated half-dollar PCGS AU-50 CAC, and an 1871 Seated dollar PCGS...
Probably a touch prooflike when struck, the 1841 half now features pale grey patina over delicately abraded surfaces. The 1871 dollar displays weakness at LIBERTY, but aside from that has much the...
442The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$775.00
1846-O Seated dollar NGC XF-40, and an 1875-S twenty-cent piece NGC...
Clem Stevens Collection. Given the age and grade, the 1875-S (with a "$" mintmark) shows surprising brilliance, but also significant frosty luster. Dark gunmetal-grey patina dominates the 1846-O...
443The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$340.00
1885-O Morgan dollar NGC MS-63 DPL, and an 1893 Barber quarter PCGS...
Numerous feathery abrasions get unfairly amplified in the brilliant reflective fields of the 1885-O dollar, but the impressive cameo contrast can't be missed. The 1893 quarter looks fully UNC at...
444The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$425.00
1808 (O-110a) Bust half-dollar NGC VF-25, and an 1819 Large 9 (B-1)...
Six-Oh-One Consignment. These were submitted with the expectation that both would grade VF-20, but the variance from expectations certainly is minor. The 1819 quarter features olive-grey patina...
445The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$625.00
Two Bust half-dollars, and two Seated type coins, as described.
Clem Stevens Collection. Each has been cleaned such that they are now of identical aluminum-grey appearance, although details levels still accommodate significant luster in every case. We list the...
429The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$525.00
Three seated type coins.
A trio of seated coins from a consignor's type collection make an appearance here. They include: 1861 half-dollar (VF-35, strangely attractive colorful patina), 1846 dollar (Fine), and 1872 dollar...
430The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$900.00
1861 Seated dime PCGS PF-62, and an 1875 Seated quarter NGC PF-62.
Remarkable jade-green toning drapes the obverse of the 1875 quarter and looks nearly jet black from some viewing angles, while the reverse shows similar darkness mottled with rose-gold accents. The...
431The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$550.00
1837 No Stars Seated dime NGC XF-40, and an 1854 Seated quarter NGC...
From the consignor's type set comes this pair of seated Liberty coins, including an 1854 quarter with a fairly flat strike, but considerable platinum-grey luster overall. An 1837 "no stars" dime...
432The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$725.00
1928-D Standing Liberty quarter PCGS MS-66, and a 1936 Delaware PCGS...
7070 Collection. Album toning encroaches inward from the rims for the 1928-D quarter, and a handful of small abrasions can be seen on Liberty's torso. Tiny dashes of olive-bronze tone splash across...
433The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$525.00
Two silver dollars and a Walking Liberty half dollar, all NGC.
7070 Collection. An 1899 dollar (MS-64) should provide the bulk of the value for this trio, and it shows pearl-grey surfaces with moderate luster. A 1923 dollar (MS-65) features delicate...
434The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$860.00
1838 half-dime NGC MS-64, and an 1853 w/ Arrows dime PCGS MS-63.
7070 Collection. Hands-down, the 1838 half-dime is the jewel of this pairing as it shows a very large (for a half-dime) die defect toward the reveres lower right. A significant chunk of the die must...
435The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$370.00
1853 half-dime, quarter, and half-dollar, as described.
Marshmallow Collection. Modest luster projects from the surfaces of the half (XF details), but strong light reveals underlying feathery hairlines, suggestive of a brief cleaning. The quarter (VF)...
436The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$550.00
Pair of Seated type coins in NGC details holders.
Marshmallow Collection. An 1888 quarter features a "thousand dollar ding" in the obverse upper right field, as otherwise, the coin has the visual impact of a phenomenally toned gem! Accompanying is...
437The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$550.00
Five U.S. silver type coins, SS New York, all NGC Shipwreck Effect.
Three consecutive New Orleans dimes probably have uncirculated sharpness, but show considerable corrosion overall, and are dated 1840-O, 1841-O, and 1842-O. An 1831 bust half-dollar makes an...
438The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$400.00
1917 Ty. 1 Standing Liberty quarter NGC MS-62 FH, and an 1880-O Morgan...
Clem Stevens Collection. There is no one reason that stands out as an obstacle to upgrade, but both coins are rather glossy white in appearance, as if very recently conserved. As a result, neither...
439The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$925.00
Washington quarter and Kennedy half-dollars in Dansco albums.
New World Estate. 1932-D (F) and 1932-S (VF) quarters start out this collection, with additional highlights that include nicer UNC examples of 1935, 1936, 1937, 1940, and numerous other coins dated...
440The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$575.00
Seven Barber quarters and thirteen Barber half-dollars.
New World Estate. Here is a group of Barber type coins, with better dates apparent especially for the half-dollars, and we do not see any notable problems for any of them. Seven quarters look like...
441The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$800.00
Massive seventy coin lot of Bust HALF-dimes, Seated HALF-dimes, and...
New World Estate. APPROXIMATE count indicates thirty 3-cent silver coins, and the balance amount to forty bust and seated HALF-dimes, with a majority of the latter. A sampling of treasures could...
442The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$625.00
Five Bust type coins.
New World Estate. Heavy wear ensures the visual compatibility of this quintet of early silver type pieces. An 1807 dime is the sole representative of the denomination, and this one grades AG with a...
443The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$525.00
Nine Capped Bust type coins.
New World Estate. Here is a terrific selection of bust coins that all grade Fine to VF, and they all appear to be problem-free and rather attractive for this grade range. Quarters include 1831, 1833...
444The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$500.00
1928 dollar, 1949-S half-dollar, and a 1929 quarter, as described.
New World Estate. Better coins enter into this uneasy alliance, with a trio of white silver coins offering tantalizing value, albeit some caveats as well. A 1929 quarter with strong head details...
445The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$475.00
1896 Barber quarter, and a 1913 Barber dime, both PCGS MS-63.
New World Estate. The grade is the same, but the character is different for this Choice BU pair of Barber coins. The 1913 dimes boasts interesting chartreuse-cinnamon toning on both sides, along...
446The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$340.00
1885 Seated dime NGC MS-64, and a 1941 Walker NGC MS-65.
The consignor tried twice to put this dime into an MS-65 holder, which is where it seems to belong due simply to exquisitely original surface quality and exceptionally potent underlying luster. ...
626The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$675.00
Forty mixed Seated Liberty coins.
No-Land Road Estate. A nice mixture of Seated Liberty small-denominations, with minor duplication. Just about a third of the coins feature mintmarks, and almost without exception a nice strong...
627The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$2,600.00
1892 dime MS-64, 1892-O quarter MS-63, and an 1892-O MS-62, all PCGS.
First-year issues represent the three Barber series, with New Orleans honored by two out of three coins. All feature similar subdued silver-grey surfaces, although the dime shows subtle coral-gold...
628The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$170.00
Two Morgan dollars and two Mercury dimes in green label PCGS holders.
Mike Wrinkle Collection. Collectors still pursue coins in old holders for the assurance of stable surfaces, and these are all nice UNC silver coins in green-label PCGS slabs. Dimes list as 1937 and...
629The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$180.00
Nine silver type coins graded by ANACS.
Mike Wrinkle Collection. A mixture makes for an interesting group of coins that aren't quite type, aren't quite modern, but are all silver and certified by ANACS. Dimes include 1946-S (MS-65 FSB),...
630The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$575.00
1938-D Walker NGC AU-55, and a 1934-S Peace dollar NGC AU-53.
Clem Stevens Collection. Easily recognizable as latter series keys, and they share similar luster and surface characteristics. The 1938-D half shows modest central definition and very minimal wear...
631The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$475.00
1840 no drapery half-dime, and a 1913 Barber dime, as described.
The 1840 "no drapery" half-dime has an excellent chance at getting certified at an uncirculated grade, but we do note some trivial hairlines in the upper right field that could be cause for alarm. A...
632The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$290.00
Eight silver type coins.
7070 Collection. Brilliant coins only make up this eclectic grouping, all set up for inclusion in any high grade album type set. A 1921 Peace dollar has UNC details, but some flashing hairlines in...
633The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$4,100.00
Four silver type coins showing questionable color.
7070 Collection. While always kept in the consignor's type album, the colors do not look quite "right" for this quartet of silver coins. In terms of detail, we list the coins quickly as 1878-CC...
634The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$3,800.00
Three early U.S. silver type coins, as described.
A 1799 dollar attributes as B-15, BB-152, but comes complete with a hole at top, as well as rather neatly penned graffiti on the upper portrait ("CDC from L"). Next is an 1806 O-115 half-dollar that...
635The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$1,950.00
1807 (B-1) quarter, and an 1807 (O-105) half-dollar, as described.
Original medium-grey patina cedes to darker accents against the portrait, sharpening the F-15 grade for the 1807 B-1 quarter. Surprisingly strong luster sparkles around the obverse of the 1807 O-105...
636The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$575.00
Three U.S. silver type coins.
Hands-down, the premier coin for this trio is a 1916-D dime that should grade Fair to AG. Next is a pleasing 1857 quarter (XF-45) that shows noticeable doubling on the reverse, and the lot concludes...
637The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$350.00
1845 half-dime, and an 1810 half-dollar, as described.
Classic Mustang Collection. In accordance with the consignor's wishes, no grade has been assigned this pair of type coins. An 1845 half-dime appears to show no wear at all, and predominantly...
638The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$400.00
Three Uncirculated Morgan dollars, plus two circulated key-date coins,...
The dollars are not scarce, represented by a pair of 1881 examples graded MS-63, though both appear to have fully prooflike obverse character. A 1921-S dollar grades MS-64. The better-date coins...
639The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$400.00
Three U.S. silver coins in PCGS rattler holders.
Surprisingly diverse, this brief trio begins with a 1941 dime in PF-64. Also dated 1941, a half-dollar grades MS-65 with mother-of-pearl apricot-silver patina, and an 1881-S dollar in MS-64 features...
640The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$900.00
1798 Large Eagle Bust dollar NGC GD-4, plus an 1803 half-dollar.
DHCH Collection. These match up nicely, since the 1798 bust dollar grades G-4 at NGC, while the (uncertified) 1803 half-dollar grades Good-plus and has virtually identical, original patina. Two coin...
641The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$475.00
1832 Bust quarter (B-2), and an 1825 Bust half-dollar (O-107), both...
Not only do these grade XF-40 or better, but both appear to be original coins with no problems, and no signs of mistreatment. The 1825 half features a nicely doubled profile and nice traces of...
642The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$260.00
1861 three-cent silver, and an 1843 half-dime, both NGC AU-58.
Classic Mustang Collection. Side by side, one realizes how similar in size the 3-cent silver and half-dime are, and this peas-in-a-pod duo also features very similar toning and luster for each. Of...
643The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$1,100.00
Two silver dollars and a Washington quarter, all PCGS MS-66.
High grade emphasizes quality over quantity for this trio, with each coin graded MS-66 by PCGS. A 1936 quarter (CAC sticker), brings delicate apricot-grey patina to the fore over a terrific strike. ...
417The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$320.00
Six tastefully toned silver coins graded by PCGS.
None of these is completely dominated by excessive color; rather, these are all just very tastefully toned and attractive type coins, certified by PCGS. The coins are briefly cataloged as follows:...
418The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$775.00
1799 (B-16) dollar, and an 1807 (O-103a) half-dollar, both impaired.
The 1799 B-16 dollar provides a fairly suitable appearance for a well circulated and large coin, but the obverse surface is somewhat rough in the right field, suggesting mild to moderate corrosion. ...
419The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$475.00
Twenty different Seated Liberty coins.
A group of Seated Liberty coins are from a consignor who had considered working on various sets, but ended up creating a type collection instead. There are no duplicates, and some nicer coins are...
420The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$350.00
Four certified silver type coins.
A quartet of silver coins all show high grades on their respective slabs, and these are all extremely bright, brilliant white specimens. A pair of dimes leads off with 1944-D (NGC MS-67 FB) and 1963...
