(About The Images)
1890-CC NGC AU-58. 1890-CC NGC AU-58.
Lot Title: 1890-CC NGC AU-58.
Description: Neils Franks Consignment. Surfaces boast just minimal contact even for the AU-58 grade, which is an unexpected bonus for Carson City gold. Indeed, there really are no significant contact marks at all, nor is wear readily apparent on Liberty's cheek, suggesting that NGC based their AU-58 assessment on the presence of trivial hairline abrasions scattered into the fields. Only frictional abrasion in the widest, most open areas of the fields can be called "wear", which allows this marvelous example to fall right on the cusp of the mint-state level. Attentive viewers will find a fine die crack connecting the tops of USofA, and the failure of this due caused some perceptible strike-doubling of the corresponding peripheral legend. (PCGS# 009014)

1095The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,950.00
1890-CC XF.
The tops of STATES OF AMERICA have become connected by a narrow, lazy die crack that suggests an aging die on that side. Trivial hairlines occupy the obverse fields, while the reverse displays...
1200The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$1,600.00
1890-CC XF.
Ex-Stack's, Glenn E. Bergstrom Collection, 6/25/2008: 1024. Luster is nearly compatible with an AU grade, with a mite too much wear to fully allow for the grade. Minor ticks on the rim and a bit of...
1201The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$4,700.00
1890-CC PCGS AU-58.
USofA are connected on the reverse by a slender die crack that even approaches the denomination. Both sides appear to show essentially no wear from circulation, though the slightest touch of friction...
1239The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,700.00
1890-CC PCGS AU-50.
Mintage of 91,209 pieces is low compared to many other common issues in the Liberty double-eagle series, but an above average survival rate has left more examples to posterity than might be expected. ...
1045The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$1,600.00
1890-CC NGC AU-50.
Marginally cleaned, but not to an extent that would prevent certification, particularly since Carson City gold is so avidly collected. The overall level of mint luster suggests a higher grade, but...
1046The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$2,300.00
1890-CC NGC AU-58.
Clearly a choice AU coin at least, since the flowline luster penetrates nearly completely through the fields, and the design elements appear essentially without wear. Well struck, but rather...
1105The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$2,250.00
1890-CC NGC AU-58.
Spinning cartwheel luster energizes this Carson City product, and it glints with some prooflike effect under appropriate lighting conditions. Unlike competing examples that have seen ill-conceived...
457The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$1,100.00
1890-CC NGC AU-50.
Although this is a somewhat easily obtainable Carson City issue for a double eagle, this specimen displays an enhancing orange-gold elegance. Lightly hairlined and with random contact ticks, it is...
576The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$1,225.00
1890-CC ANACS AU-55.
This example, from the most popularly collected western mint, sparkles with a rich yellow-gold reflectivity. Trivially marked, and with a very scant number of abrasions, this dramatically struck...
577The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$1,750.00
1890-CC NGC AU-58.
This popular Carson City type is constantly getting tougher and tougher to locate in AU and higher grades. The surfaces, detail, and luster observed on this example are all commendable. In fact, it...
