(About The Images)
1806 (O-107a, R.5) VF/cleaned/ex-jewelry. 1806 (O-107a, R.5) VF/cleaned/ex-jewelry.
Lot Title: 1806 (O-107a, R.5) VF/cleaned/ex-jewelry.
Description: Courteous Collection of Early Type. Cleaning has recovered somewhat, now that lead-grey patina adorns most of the surface. Examination of the rim shows that most of the lettering is absent, and we believe this coin was in a loop at one time, leading to our "ex-jewelry" connotation. (PCGS# 006075)

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Low Estimate: $400.00
High Estimate: $600.00

1806 (O-105) VG.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Rich, ideal and essentially perfect two-toned dove-grey and graphite patina endows this VG-10 example with remarkable eye-appeal, given the rather heavy wear. A...

1806 (O-105) VF/cleaned.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Cleaned to a thoroughly unnatural chalky white appearance, the value of this type coin will be found in the strong VF-20 details. The motto reads rather well, and...
522The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$875.00
1806 (O-106) XF/cleaned.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Rather pasty tin-grey overall and flat, it's easy to predict a "cleaned" disclaimer for this knob-6 half. An isolated patch of microporosity extends upward from...

1806 (O-106) XF details/obverse tooled.

1806 (O-107, R.5) F.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Evidently still considered a rare die-marriage, this 1806 O-107 features low-contrast rose-grey patina and strike-related flatness overall, despite our F-15 grade....

1806 (O-113, R.5+) F/cleaned/scratched.

1806 (O-114a, R.4) VF.

1806 (O-115) XF.

1806 (O-115a) VF.
Ronald Zink Early Type Collection. Delightful for the VF-35 grade, some mulberry-grey toning spreads out across each side and implies very nice, vintage surface quality. The obverse looks fully XF...

1806 (O-115a) VF.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Appealing in the sense of vintage surfaces, this lovely O-115a still offers tangible flowline texture at just the VF-20 grade level. Mulberry-grey toning occupies...
537The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$525.00
1806 (O-116) VF.
Ronald Zink Early Type Collection. Dusky grey patina causes a low-contrast overall appearance even though the details show quite well under magnification. VF-20 should prove to be a solid grade for...

1806 (O-117, R.4) F.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. This is a marvelous, original example that shows no problems or distractions at all on either side. Difficult to grade due to the wretched quality of the obverse...
539The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$160.00
1806 (O-117, R.4+) F.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. 1806 O-117 will always display weakness along the left side of the portrait due to a shallow obverse die, but at this, the F-12 level, the full outline of...
540The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$725.00
1806 (O-117, R.4+) VF.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. An original draped-bust half-dollar could not look nicer than this creme-grey 1806 O-117 that grades VF-25. Absolutely terrific vintage patina layers the surface...
541The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$725.00
1806 (O-118a) VF.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. The famous shattered-die reverse shows huge die-breaks at this state of the reverse die, yet the production still managed to impress nicely sculpted feathers into...
542The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$428.00
1806 (O-118a) VF.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. The consignor calls this VF-25, which is quite compatible with our VF-20 grade that reasonably assesses actual preservation, since the shattered reverse die is...
543The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$825.00
1806 (O-118a) VF.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Here is a fabulous, original bust half-dollar that offers everything someone could want in VF-20. Ash-grey patina dominates overall, with the high relief areas...
544The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$290.00
1806 (O-120) VF/corroded.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. The unfortunate effects of corrosion show up as micro-pits seen throughout both sides. It isn't clear when the corrosion took effect, since PVC was found to be...
545The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$400.00
1806 (O-120a, R.4) VF.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Although the low-contrast color scheme tends to downplay sharpness, a careful inspection shows fair separation of the central hair strands and distinct folds in...
546The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$750.00
1806 (O-120a, R.4) XF/harshly cleaned.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Excessive chalk-white brilliance dominates the appearance overall, which is unfortunate in that attention is drawn away from the lovely XF-40 details. Despite...
547The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$475.00
1806 (O-121, R.4) VF.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Perhaps a trifle mottled in terms of toning pattern, the surface displays mostly a faint tinge of underlying bronze color that contrasts gently with dove-grey...

1806 (O-121, R.4) XF/cleaned.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. XF-45 quality suffers but a trifle overall from minor cleaning on the obverse, and for sure, each side retains a considerable portion of the original mint luster. ...

1806 (O-125, R.5) VF/harshly cleaned.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Severe detriments to the eye-appeal including a gaping patch of tooling in the obverse right field, and considerable hairlining of the surface. It's quite...
551The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$425.00
1806 (O-125, R.5) VF/cleaned.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Cleaned with a bit of blotchy toning now on each side, this particularly O-125 appears to mate a strong obverse die with a fairly shallow and worn reverse die,...
552The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$2,100.00
1806/9 (O-111) VF.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. 1806 with the "6 over inverted 6" should prove to be an extremely desirable coin in very-fine grades or better, and we suggest VF-35 as a fair reflection of detail...
553The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$950.00
1806/9 (O-112, R.4, EDS) F.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. The errant underdigit can be plainly seen without a glass in this early die-state, with the die-state identified by the brevity of the crack at S11. For the F-12...

1806/9 (O-112, R.4) VF.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. VF-20 or perhaps slightly higher consideration should make this an approachable low-contrast 1806/9, and the errant underdigit shows nicely with magnification. In...
628The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$875.00
1806 Pointed 6, Stem (O-115) VF.
Terrific for VF, as delicate luster flirts with the edge devices and some pastel hues tint the surface. Indeed, the reverse has begun to show some definite evidence of album toning, and should...

1806 (O-103), and an 1807 Capped Bust (O-113a).
Apple Peel Collection. Two early type half-dollars in Fine or better grade could hardly match up better than this pair. Both feature superb, crunchy original charcoal and grey patina with no...
532The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$450.00
1806 Pointed 6 (O-115,R.1) F.
Outrageously original surfaces display the fuzzy, lavender and powder-grey patina that only results from undisturbed, extremely long-term storage in a paper envelop. Absolutely wonderful! Due to the...
533The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$425.00
1806 Pointed 6, Stem Through Claw (O-116, R.2) PCGS VF-20.
One of a group of delightful draped-bust half-dollars struck from this obverse die, the progression of the die crack that sweeps left and up from the bottom of the date's digits can be followed across...
411The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$575.00
1806 Pointed Top 6 (O-120, R.3) VF.
The low "8" in the date and the die defects at the corners of the shield quickly confer an O-120 attribution to this nicely detailed 1806 half-dollar. A surprising level of mint luster remains on...
693The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,850.00
1806 Knob 6, Small Stars (O-106, R.4), 1806 Pointed 6 (O-109, R.1) and...
A terrific lot of three attributed Draped Bust half-dollars, all dated 1806. The O-106 grades F-12 and features deep, rich patina on either side, with E PLURIBUS UNUM virtually complete. O-109 has...
694The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$130.00
1806 (O-109, R.1) VG.
Oddly colored on the obverse, while the reverse is typically flat. A few points discrepancy between sides leads to a VG-8/G-4 grade assessment.
695The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$2,800.00
1806 "6 over Inverted 6" (O-111a, R-4) PCGS XF-40.
Pale nearly to the point of being excessively so, but some fortuitous tan-gold accents are splashed across the highpoints, helping to attenuate the pallor to some extent. A thin path of luster still...
696The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$4,800.00
1806 "Pointed 6, No Stem" (O-109a, R-3) PCGS AU-55.
The obverse is toned in curiously dark layers of magenta and navy-blue, while the reverse features lovely album iridiscence and is by far the more lustrous side. Handling marks are pleasantly absent,...
568The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$1,025.00
1806 (O-115) Draped Bust half-dollar, ANACS AU-55, cleaned
Not designated on the ANACS slab is the attribution, O-115, a common die marriage. In this case, the disclaimer of simply "cleaned" seems to be a bit optimistic, as your cataloger believes this coin...
519The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$1,400.00
1806 O-124 R6 "E/A" VG-11 Details, Scratched, Net VG-8
Ex-Stu Keen, FUN 2007. This is the very rare "E/A" reverse that is included as a Red Book variety, so it is notorious for adding considerable difficulty to the completion of a collection by Red Book...

1806 O-102 F-12.
The terminal die state for 1806 O-102 is denoted by the presence of a triangular die chip between "E" and "D" on the reverse. The obverse employed was already an aged die when used to strike this...
522The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$625.00
1806 O-101 VF-25.
Doubled edge lettering seems to be the rage these days; in fact, the Presidential dollar is selling for large premiums when this error is present. However, it is far more difficult to locate a Draped...
523The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$500.00
1806 O-107a VF-25.
The late die state is characterized by two small dentil cuds on the reverse on either side of the Eagle's tail features (about 5:00 and 7:00 on the rims). This example grades about VF-25, or so, with...
524The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$410.00
1806 O-118a LDS VF-30.
This late die state is easily identified by the small forked die crack at 7:00 of the reverse and an additional die crack through the first letter of "OF." The obverse displays lavender fields with a...
525The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$575.00
1806 O-119a VF-30.
A circular die crack surrounding most of the reverse, additional reverse die cracks at 2:00 and 7:00, and yet another extending up from the left corner of the shield, leave no doubt about the very...
526The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$1,600.00
1806 O-121 AU-50.
A spectacular pattern of toning explodes like fireworks behind Liberty's portrait with brilliant cyan and orange colors, while the reverse is much tamer, being primarily silvery white with a touch of...

1109The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$290.00
1806 O-115, R-1. VF-20+.
Deep peripheral hues appear on this issue's peripheries and frame its light gray central areas. Some contact marks and flecks are not a deterrent to its overall pleasing appeal.
1110The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$490.00
1806 O-125, R-5. VF-30.
Light to medium pewter surfaces give this variety a graceful visual aspect. A mild number of surface marks are observed on this handsome date. Save for a slight weakness on Liberty's uppermost hair...

1806 O-115, R-1. VF-25.
Light gray surfaces surrounded by deeper tones and interspersed light blues are observed on the peripheries. A couple speckles on Liberty do not detract from its pleasing aspect or decent strike.
1364The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$340.00
1806 O-114a, R-4 VF-25.
Diagnostic to this variety is the somewhat bifurcating die break that runs the entire reverse. The light gray surfaces have a hint of gold that cloaks both sides. Faint hairlines are seen, but are...
