Lot Title:
1802 (O-101) F/cleaned.
Description:
Courteous Collection of Early Type. Almost legendary for its scarcity in dealer stock, 1802 is one of THE difficult dates in the entire early half-dollar series. Definition here just makes the Fine grade, even though 1802 and it's cousin 1801 get leeway for reverse sharpness compared to later draped-bust dates. Cleaning has removed the patina and left behind pale grey fields, but the area outside the stars still retains some toast-gold coloration. (PCGS# 006065)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
