335The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$725.00
1883 NGC PF-66 CAMEO.
Arresting clarity of the silver surfaces provides instant eye-appeal, elevated nicely by fragile, frosty texture gently layering the devices. A shimmering coin, and particularly sharp and mark-free...
321The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$400.00
1883 PCGS PF-65.
Pearl-grey in the fields and on the devices means no contrast for the coin, and no soup for you. Luckily, the PF-65 level also means no hairlines or distracting spots, aside from a single tiny green...
322The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$400.00
1883 PCGS PF-65.
Pristine aside from a thin, diagonal grey streak down the portrait, the obverse fields offer decent contrast with Liberty's portrait. Not much cameo can be seen on the reverse, with interest captured...
323The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$650.00
1883 PCGS PF-66.
A blistering little jewel, the obverse offers overall frosty texture while mirrored brilliance illuminates the reverse fields. Exceptional sharpness includes strong details even in the lower curls. ...
976The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$380.00
1883 (B05, plate coin) ACG MS-64.
The cataloger's grade is MS-63 with a small patch of friction on the cheek and evidence of mild prooflike reflectivity. Allan Gifford's notes indicate "1883/2 Breen-2447", with additional verbiage...
977The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$380.00
1883 (B05, plate coin) PCI MS-65.
The cataloger's grade is MS-64. Surfaces are generally high quality and shimmering with steely reflectivity behind sharply struck ivory devices, but both sides bear the presence of lead-grey stains.
978The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$1,050.00
1883 PCI MS-66.
The cataloger's grade is MS-64. That said, this is a drop-dead gorgeous three-cent nickel whose eye-appeal is off the charts. Stunning bull's-eye target toning is completely original and colors both...
979The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$1,000.00
1883 NGC PF-67.
Amazing brilliance is superseded only by pristine surface quality, with pure silver-white brightness emanating from the fields. No contrast designation is given by NGC, but the cameo effect is...
472The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$425.00
1883 (P01, plate coin) PCGS PF-65 (green label).
1883 P01, Plate coin. The obverse is drop-dead beautiful, an ideal proof representation for this era of three-cent nickels. The reverse would be similarly attractive if not for a couple of small but...
473The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$575.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
The formation of lovely bull's-eye toning is just starting to take place on the obverse, with indistinct bands of pastel iridescence subtly visible under some viewing angles. Three or four trivial...
355The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$280.00
1883 PCGS PF-62.
Lead-grey patina is particularly noticeable on the reverse, but both sides are a trifle hazy in spite of excellent underlying brilliance. A couple of tiny marks on Liberty's cheek are fortuitously...
356The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$675.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
Each side is consumed by impressive bronze-gold patina that nearly yields the appearance of a copper coin at first glance. Preservation is exemplary, with the obverse pristine and gleaming with...
357The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$625.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
Startlingly attractive, gleaming pure liquid fields gleam with icy mint-blue tone and provide just a touch of contrast against Liberty's mildly frosted portrait. Indeed, from any technical standpoint...
233The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$500.00
1883 PCGS PF-65.
Pristine liquid-silver surfaces display a frail, shimmering veneer of almond-white patina, permitting easy appreciation of modest cameo effect on the obverse. The reverse is fully brilliant. Both...
234The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$320.00
1883 PF-65.
This delightful gem proof 1883 three-cent nickel spent proud time in the consignor's album type set. Decent cameo effect can be seen on either side, owing to good reflectivity in the fields. A...
179The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$340.00
1883 PCGS PF-64.
Proof coins should always be sharp, but this particular 1883 is even better struck than average for a date that was not always expertly produced. The PCGS grade seems conservative, and was perhaps...
180The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$425.00
1883 NGC PF-65.
A precisely struck gem that is not quite pristine, but which presents as a gleaming jewel with noticeable cameo contrast. There are really no distractions of note, though two oblong patches of...
181The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$575.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
Scintillating white surfaces produce much brilliance due to their pristine nature and nearly pristine preservation. Just a tenuous layer of grey patina yields an aluminum-grey cast to the reverse. A...
182The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$575.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
Underlying brilliance is faintly muted by a very thin layer of apricot-grey patina, and the luster is nearer that of a coin intended for commercial use. Little contrast appears on either side.
529The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$425.00
1883 PF-65.
A delightful, gem proof 1883 three-cent nickel that was removed from an NGC PF-65 slab. Decent cameo effect can be seen on either side, owing to good reflectivity in the fields. In defiance of the...
530The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$425.00
1883 NGC PF-65.
A little less contrast on the reverse probably prohibited "cameo" consideration, but the smooth, precise gem quality of either side is unimpeachable. A small dark grey planchet flaw just right of the...
531The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$725.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
Absolutely pristine and essentially unmarked, with shining mirrors and near cameo effect, particularly on the obverse. A single carbon spot rests just in front of Liberty's ear, and an extremely...
532The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$625.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
Generally brilliant despite some cameo texture on Liberty's portrait, and exceptionally well struck even for a proof coin. All four digits in the date are nicely recut.
567The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$425.00
1883 NGC PF-65.
A silver-beige coin with lavender-rose color that tints the reverse fields, but avoids the obverse almost entirely. As usual, very little differentiates the strike from that of a regular issue coin,...
480The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$625.00
1883 Proof three-cent nickel, PCGS PR-65 CAMEO
An occasional glimpse of honey-gold toning across the portrait and the rightmost Roman numeral deny this coin consideration as an untoned piece. However, the contrast between the fields and devices is...
481The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$975.00
1883 Three cent nickel, NGC PF-67
In spite of a little device-to-field contrast, this brightly shining coin doesn't adequately qualify for any sort of "cameo" designation, yet some cameo appeal remains. Flashy mirrors reflect a...
329The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$700.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
A marvelously struck satinlike Gem issue with more Proofs struck than business strikes (6,609 versus 4,000). Its golden highlights visually enhance its frosty features. Randomly dispersed minute...
330The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$700.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
A superb visual charm is projected by this boldly defined issue's vivid golden aspect. These impressive highlights grace not only its velvetlike surfaces, but also its delicate frosted motifs. ...
331The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$1,000.00
1883 NGC PF-67.
Simply stunning defines the exceptional visual quality of this impressive issue. One toned planchet mark is detected on Liberty's cheek bone. Exceptional delineation on the design elements makes it...
385The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$700.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
Attractive light rose patina adorns both the obverse and reverse of this spectacular coin. The fields are highly reflective and free of marks. The devices are sharply struck.
386The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$700.00
1883 NGC PF-66.
In this cataloger's opinion, you just can't have enough high grade Proof three-cent nickels. Here is an idea for the aspiring Scotsman "Customer of the Year" candidate: as soon as the sale proceeds...
387The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$1,000.00
1883 NGC PF-67.
This especially magnificent three-cent nickel Proof appears to be virtually perfect and demands to be placed in a high-grade type set. The devices are frosty white, and the fields are clean and...
911The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$525.00
1883 NGC PF-65.
This specimen displays a sparkling brilliance that radiates from virtually pristine surfaces. The few minuscule specks noted are nearly imperceptive, even when employing a glass. A gorgeous strike...
1091The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$525.00
1883 PCGS PF-65.
Pale gold iridescence grace the glistening, reflective surfaces. Microscopic specks are nearly imperceptive to the naked eye. The devices are crisp and robust.
