Lot Title:
France - 1740-E Sou Marque (Vlack-78 Tours mint, R.7) MS-60.
Description:
500,000 were struck yet the population of 1740-E qualifies for very-rare to extremely-rare status due to high attrition. The mintmark "E" shows readily at the bottom of the obverse and features a little die-break, while the little heart-shaped emblem at the bottom of the reverse is the symbol for mint director Pierre Petiteau. Overall eye appeal benefits from very attractive graphite-silver surfaces on a fairly well centered planchet. Despite its appearance as a technically uncirculated coin, an ancient shallow scratch can be found near the bottom left of the date side, not far above the mintmark, held virtually invisible within the striated toning pattern. (PCGS# 158682)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
