(About The Images)
1773 Virginia halfpenny, with period after GEORGIVS, PCGS AU-58. 1773 Virginia halfpenny, with period after GEORGIVS, PCGS AU-58.
Lot Title: 1773 Virginia halfpenny, with period after GEORGIVS, PCGS AU-58.
Description: The unexpectedly reflective obverse and satiny reverse incorporate a healthy layer of honey-tan patina throughout, along with a touch of subtle navy-blue iridescence peeking between edge lettering. Interestingly, scattered raised areas in the fields suggest the obverse may have been struck from a rusted die that required polishing prior to use, which would help explain the slightly prooflike production. (PCGS# 000240)

250The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$725.00
1773 Virginia halfpenny, with period after GEORGIVS, NGC MS-62 BN.
Though properly designated "brown", the reverse shows some remarkably nice mint-red flash around the upper shield that speaks to the uncirculated grade level. Frosty dark brown patina occupies the...
197The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$310.00
1773 PERIOD AFTER GEORGIVS. MS-60.
Deep walnut-brown and a touch reflective, more so in the obverse fields. A small planchet flaw draws toward the right side of the reverse, and both sides display evidence of a light die clash.
198The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$875.00
1773 1/2P PERIOD AFTER GEORGIVS. NGC MS-63 BN.
Nice, dry violet-red surfaces exhibit much more mint red than one would expect of a BN designation, though flowline luster is definitely subdued by salmon-grey patina. One of the popular Colonial...
199The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$700.00
1773 PERIOD AFTER GEORGIVS. PCGS MS-63RB (green label).
Here and there, a slender thread of mint red may persist, yet the overall immediate impact is that of a fully bronzed coin with iridescent orange highlights. A greenish dot at the far bottom right...
