Lot Title:

Judd-1689: 1882 Nickel (R.7+), PCGS PF-64.
Description:
The Eric Newman example recently sold and was certified as grading PF-66 by NGC. Truth be told, this PCGS PF-64 appears scarcely different from the example from that esteemed collection, with comparable prooflike cameo and similar aluminum brilliance. That being said, a couple of factors to consider include a few more planchet flakes evident for this example, and delicate patchy hairlining of the cheek appears to be the result of minor slide friction. Judd-1689 legitimately has aspirations to being an extremely rare pattern in aluminum, with the design similar to that actually adopted the following year (including the "no cents" reverse). Based upon the consignor's evidence, we believe this specific example has been off the market for approximately fifteen years, making it a never-resubmitted example ripe for picking by any pattern enthusiast.
