Lot Title:

Indian cent collection, 1857 through 1909-S (no 1869/8), in a Whitman album.
|
Description:
|
By far, these are mostly original cents, with 1857, 1859, 1874 and 1907 showing obvious signs of cleaning and 1909-S showing just a hint of an old cleaning (since retoned almost completely). This encouraging factor underscores the care with which this set was assembled, with very few problems noted for any particular coin. 1866 has some mild roughness, 1872 shows signs of surface corruption, 1874 shows light even corrosion, 1876 has some dark areas, 1883 has some dark red residue, 1908 seems a bit dark. We grade the keys as: 1864 "L" (XF), 1867 (XF), 1870 (VF), 1871 (VF), 1877 (G-6/small obverse scratch), 1908-S (XF), and 1909-S (XF/lightly cleaned).
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
