(About The Images)
1896-O NGC MS-63. 1896-O NGC MS-63.
Lot Title: 1896-O NGC MS-63.
Description: Dollar Davis Album Collection. 160 graded MS-63, 13 higher at NGC. Famous as a grade-rarity in the series, 1896-O commands the price of a new car in MS-64, and the cost of a small house in MS-65, which makes the present MS-63 grade become very attractive to buyers who wish to maintain financial sanity. No disappointments here, as this gleaming choice example, just removed from the consignor's album collection, features a surprisingly deft strike for a date often seen with poor details. Some softness inevitably forms over the ear and at the eagle's breast, but accurate definition elsewhere and plenty of strong satin luster suggest commendable production. Abrasions have been generally relegated to the area around Liberty's eye. (PCGS# 007242)

857The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$650.00
1896-O PCGS AU-55, and a 1904-S PCGS AU-53.
Smithereen's Collection. The value of each explodes in MS-60, which makes the better AU grades attractive to the savvy collector looking for a bargain. Eggshell-grey patina covers the 1896-O but...
813The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$4,900.00
1896-O PCGS MS-63.
Even a basic MS-60 1896-O will cost a grand, and at MS-65? The sky's the limit, with recent sales showing coins at $150,000. Who really wants to trade in their residence for a single dollar? Keep...
920The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$475.00
1896-O NGC AU-53, 1896-S NGC XF-45, and 1897-O NGC AU-58.
Better date Morgan dollars in this group would be much more expensive at uncirculated levels, and represent an ideal compromise for some collectors, being graded below the huge value jump points. All...
921The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$425.00
1896-O MS-60/dipped.
Softness near the center of each side is typical for 1896-O, but of more concern, the luster is somewhat muted, as if the coin had been dipped too many times. Contact with another dollar has placed a...
649The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$475.00
1896-O and 1901-S PCGS AU-58.
Familiar keys in the silver dollar series, the AU-58 grade assigned by PCGS gives an opportunity to the collector of finite means to acquire this 1896-O and 1901-S at reasonable cost. While the...
1012The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$550.00
1896-O PCGS Genuine.
Code "94" indicates "altered surface", and certainly there appears to be a layer of some unknown substance spread out across each side, and possibly etched into the surface texture. While underlying...
1013The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$330.00
1896-O NGC AU-58.
Just a hair's breadth away from being fully UNC, with brief rub in the fields and trivial circulation marks on Liberty's cheek. Twin marks of moderate size also appear on her chin, but they are not...
744The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$270.00
1896-O Morgan dollar AU-58+
Barely misses a fully uncirculated grade on account of some light friction on Liberty's cheek and above the ear. The reverse looks mint state. Mostly white, and very nearly fully lustrous.
745The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$1,950.00
1896-O Morgan dollar, PCGS MS-62
Ex-Larry Shapiro. Slight haze deprives a fully pristine appearance, but there are surprisingly few marks for the grade. Compared to its availability in circulated grades, this issue is...
854The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$1,250.00
1896-O NGC MS-61.
This vibrant example displays a splendid blend of russet and mauve on the obverse, while the reverse is copiously bedecked in an exquisite magenta. Some scattered contact marks, and a scant scrape or...
