Lot Title:
1872 PCGS MS-60.
Description:
At the UNC level, any double-eagle dated prior to 1872 or earlier automatically qualifies as a tougher date, as the survival rate for these large gold coins did not become noticeably elevated until the striking of the 1873 "open 3" coins. Heavy abrasions do confer technical limitations upon this rich golden example, but both sides show obviously-full luster, with the reverse showing a deft touch of reflectivity in the fields.
