1903 Jefferson, and a 1916 McKinley, both AU. 1903 Jefferson, and a 1916 McKinley, both AU.
Lot Title: 1903 Jefferson, and a 1916 McKinley, both AU.
Description: New World Estate. Lustrous coins, the McKinley displays copper-gold patina, while the Jefferson features lime-yellow color. Both appear to be problem-free gold dollars in this two coin lot.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Low Estimate: $600.00
High Estimate: $700.00

1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-65+.
Impeccably preserved, with each side showing a lovely admixture of butterscotch and medium gold. True to the "plus" grade, the surfaces exhibit premium quality, with softly glowing satin luster that...
1115The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$2,500.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-66+ CAC.
Inimitable eye-appeal could not attain much better quality than this, as the lovely frosted surfaces exude driving luster and beautiful medium-gold color. Details on both sides have been brought up...
1079The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$600.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-63.
Perhaps a bit more pale than usual, but the surfaces retain superior luster and appear nearly mark-free. The reverse exhibits particularly nice satiny texture.
1080The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$1,100.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-65.
Pleasing satin luster as always drives the eye-appeal, and augments the positive attributes of a very sharp strike. The reverse may have the makings of an even higher grade, but the obverse left...
1081The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$4,500.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-67.
Here is one of the finest superb-gem gold coins in today's sale. A pure delight, this Jefferson dollar features blistering luster that scorches the fields and brings out all of the finely struck...
1068The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$575.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-63.
Grapefruit patina enriches the color scheme, but can only go so far toward ameliorating grade-limiting factors. The obverse bears close scrutiny quite well, with a couple of greyish spots in front of...
1069The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$465.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-63.
Pale in coloration and modestly hairlined. Plenty of luster animates the fields, but doesn't have that special "sizzle" of a higher grade.
1070The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$2,200.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-66.
Post-mint impairments are essentially absent, with nary a ding nor dint to be seen. The usual subtle prooflike character will appeal to many collectors, but the presence of a few scattered copper...
360The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$1,300.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-65.
The PCGS MS-65 grade is utterly decisive and beyond reproach for this impeccable "gem" dollar. Putting a loupe to each side finds flawless satin luster and an almost complete lack of contact marks...
361The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$1,650.00
1903 Jefferson NGC MS-66.
Details are wonderfully sharp, even at the dentilation, which is sometimes weak for late die-state examples. An interesting, curly strikethrough intertwines with the reverse lettering at 12:00. ...
954The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$1,050.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-64.
A loupe fails to reveal any noticeable blemishes, aside from some trivial hairlines crisscrossing the obverse right field. These appear only under limited viewing angles, and shouldn't impact the...
955The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$1,750.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-66 (green label).
The level of preservation borders on astonishing, as the coin must have been extracted from careful, long-term album storage prior to encapsulation. Absolutely delightful multicolored toning enhances...
956The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$4,900.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-67 (green label).
Either side borders on true perfection, as there are no meaningful abrasions whatsoever to deny a higher grade. Such lofty expectations, however justifiable, may be in vain since PCGS has [i]never...
748The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$550.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-63.
Very frosty, and with a reverse that might grade MS-65 all by itself. A loupe instantly identifies a quartet of vertical hairlines on Jefferson's cheek as the primary grade determinant.
1222The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$550.00
1903 Jefferson. AU PL.
Fields display some reflectivity, but also hairlines from circulation or excessive handling. The barest minimum of wear suggests that the overall grade is near the high end of the AU grade range.
1223The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$950.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-64.
Subtle semi-prooflike effect is most noticeable under magnification, which also permits full appreciation of the superb strike quality. It is amazing how much detail the mint was able to fit onto...
1224The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$875.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-64.
Surfaces are so bright that they are almost brilliant yellow, but neither side displays any apparent hairlines. In fact, the reverse has a number of subtle copper spots that wouldn't be expected on a...
1225The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,650.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-66.
Precisely struck and immaculately preserved, there are no technical weakness notable at all on either side. As is usual for this diminutive commemorative, peripheral areas display orange-peel...
689The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$1,000.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-64.
A shining jewel that very nearly seems undergraded at first glance. Meticulous inspection will reveal several wispy hairlines in both obverse fields, but little else by way of distraction.
707The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,175.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-65.
Exceptionally sharp, as is often the case for this popular gold commemorative. Perhaps a little more pale than ideal for a vintage gold coin, but the lemon-gold color is by no means offensive.
1281The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$1,750.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-66.
Amazingly free of contact marks, though each side features a couple or so greyish discoloration spots from alloy impurities. Die deterioration is prominently apparent in the peripheral areas of each...
1091The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$825.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-63.
Field reflectivity appeals to the eye and beckons closer examination of this charming gold coin. Even under a glass, conspicuous defects are surprisingly absent, and only a series of unobtrusive...
1092The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$1,750.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-65.
Meticulous preservation of this delightful gold commemorative allows it to pass to its next owner with wonderful, inherent appeal intact. Extended die use produced some of the alluring orange peel...
1166The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,250.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-64.
Glistening gold surfaces imply somewhat prooflike quality for the obverse, though there is little cameo effect. Closer examination reveals a coin that appears to have the qualities of a gem until a...
1167The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,400.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-64.
A bit of "noise" on Jefferson's cheek likely denies higher grade consideration, but nonetheless, the luster is exemplary and the strike outstanding. A minor copper stain appears right of the reverse...
1168The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,950.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-65.
It is not always sensible to describe a tiny coin as "stunning", but in this case, the expression fits. Sizeable eye-appeal is packaged up in this diminutive piece, with orange-peel texture that...
1169The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$1,650.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-65.
A sensational gem that, if graded only by the obverse, would deserve at least an MS-67 grade. On the reverse is an aberration in the planchet west and a little south of center, and there is no doubt...
1093The Midwest Winter Sale 2008 on 02/08/2008$1,550.00
1903 Jefferson commemorative gold dollar, NGC MS-64
Patient examination fails to reveal any particular reason for denying this coin a "gem" assessment. As far as your cataloger can tell, there are virtually no abrasions at all, and certainly none of...
1210The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$750.00
1903 Jefferson. MS-63++.
The surfaces of this first souvenir issue gleam with an abundant honey gold copiously spread over its satinlike surfaces. A very faint scratch is detected in front of Jefferson's eye. It extends...
1199The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$1,700.00
Five $1 Gold Commemoratives.
Five relatively unworn Gold Commemoratives, but examples that are ex-jewelry and/or cleaned. Included are a 1903 Jefferson, two 1904 Lewis and Clark, a 1905 Lewis and Clark, and a 1915-S...
1200The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$525.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC AU-58.
Just a modest amount of friction is perceived on this admirably struck example. Besides a couple of delicate hairlines and minuscule ticks, there is the normal surface granularity at the peripheries.
1201The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$666.67
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-63.
This early gold Commemorative issue emits an alluring gold-orange glow. A scant amount of ticks and scuffs are observed if employing a glass. Also, a couple of minute indentations are observed...
1202The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$1,300.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-64.
A lavish orange-gold effulgence engulfs this issue's delicate surfaces. The few random marks seen, mainly on this specimen's obverse, are noted descriptively. It presents a rather exceptionally bold...
1091The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$1,350.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-63.
This coin is absolutely amazing. It is dripping with luster, has a monster strike, and has no distractions. This is a must have coin if you are working on a Gold Commemorative set.
1092The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$1,750.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-64.
A glowing example with plush flowing luster and solid detail definition. If only the reverse was viewed to determine a grade, MS-66 would likely be awarded. A couple of miniscule marks in front of...
1094The Midwest Winter Sale 2007 on 02/09/2007$2,600.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-66.
This specimen from the inaugural year for Commemorative gold issues displays an exquisite gold aspect on its velvety surfaces. The acute definition of detailing can not be surpassed.
240The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$625.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS AU-58.
Just a slight touch of wear is discerned on this handsome specimen. A meager number of ticks are overshadowed by its exquisite orange aspect. Vibrant and superbly struck for the assigned grade.
241The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$725.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-62.
A rich orange-gold iridescence radiates from this specimen's glistening surfaces. A scant number of ticks are observed on Jefferson's profile when employing a glass.
242The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$1,150.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-63.
An appealing golden orange is emitted from this early Gold Commemorative. A few trite ticks and scuffs are noted, plus there is a pebbly aspect at some of the peripheries due to heavy utilization of...
243The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$3,300.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-66.
This glistening mattelike specimen elicits a warm honey gold appearance. Prominently struck, it is an indisputable Gem representative from the initial year of Commemorative gold issues.
294The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$700.00
1903 Jefferson. NGC MS-62.
A glowing example of this popular issue. The rich, yellow-gold, and lustrous surfaces have a slight orange iridescent quality. There are no detracting marks or blemishes, and the strike is strong...
295The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$1,850.00
1903 Jefferson. PCGS MS-64.
Full, brilliant mint luster gives this lovely Jefferson Commemorative a satinlike brilliance that is quite pleasing. The reverse has a couple miniscule toning flecks, but there would be little...
