Marshmallow Collection. Mintage: 1,376. It is almost as if NGC looked at this coin and said "uh-oh... very rare date... artificial patina... must be covering up a repair", because regarding whatever repair may have been made ... it is utterly impossible to find. The closest thing to a surface aberration appears to be some small scattered tooling marks in the obverse right field, and they may represent a simple attempt to eradicate a pinscratch in the vicinity (see ex-NGC 3520849-001). Of course, 1871-CC is one of the very low mintage emissions of the Seated Liberty dollar series, exceeded in terms of value by perhaps three or four other issues. (PCGS# 006967)
