1879-CC Capped CC (VAM-3). NGC MS-60. 1879-CC Capped CC (VAM-3). NGC MS-60.
Lot Title: 1879-CC Capped CC (VAM-3). NGC MS-60.
Description: One of the famous keys that isn't terribly expensive in low grade, but quickly jumps into the high end of the market at UNC grades, MS-60 is hands-down the way to go if mint-state is a requirement on a budget. At this level, this coin shows a considerable number of tiny contact marks peppering the entire obverse, as well as noticeably impaired luster on that side. Curiously, the reverse seems to grade MS-63 all by itself! VAM-3 attributes readily from the well-recognized "capped CC" that shows a lot of "junk" around the mintmark. (PCGS# 133869)

1879-CC CAPPED DIE (VAM-3). XF.
Modest hairlines do not impede the substantial luster that still emanates from the fields of this key silver dollar. Minor album toning splashes the obverse rims, while the reverse shows light...

1879-CC CAPPED DIE (VAM-3). ANACS XF-45.
The Blitzer Collection. VAM-3, the familiar "capped die". Much luster continues to roam the peripheral area, and occupies about a quarter of the reverse. Some light honey-gold patina touches the...

1879-CC CAPPED DIE. PCGS XF-45.
The reverse seems fully AU, retaining well over half the original cartwheel effect, while sparkling luster races around the peripheral lettering of the obverse. Light grey overall, a narrow band of...

1879-CC CAPPED DIE (VAM-3). NGC MS-62.
Exquisite, finely textured frost layers the entire coin and shows practically no blemishes, leading to a question as to why the assigned grade is so low (MS-62). While closer examination finds some...
678The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$575.00
1879-CC Capped Die. XF details/cleaned.
Strong consideration could definitely be given the AU level, since both sides benefit from pronounced luster. Indeed, the eagle's breast feathers are mostly present, and Liberty's hair is fairly...
680The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$1,250.00
1879-CC CAPPED DIE. PCGS AU-50.
Brash leaden patina mixes with underlying remnants of beige toning to produce an 1879-CC "capped die" of fairly memorable appearance. Despite the thick patina, virile luster forms a strong foundation...
