Lot Title:
1860 PCGS PF-65 (green label).
Description:
Early copper collectors know that Floyd T. Starr once assembled one of the finest late-date large cent collections when he purchased both the Newcomb and Hines collections in the 1940s. However, his vast estate included numerous gem proof coins and early type coins that provided the core for the famous sale of his collection in 1992. Here is an 1860 proof quarter that displays ebony-jade patina over rather reflective fields and exceedingly well struck devices. As is the case for most coins from great collection, those attributed to Starr tend to remain in strong hands, and this is an unusual opportunity to acquire a great combination of provenance, quality and aesthetic appeal in a PCGS green-label holder. This really neat quarter is gunmetal gray in color with hues of magenta, green, violet, and turquoise. There are no major marks or distractions at all. The toning on this coin is what really sets it... |
