(About The Images)
1916-S AU-55. 1916-S AU-55.
Lot Title: 1916-S AU-55.
Description: During this first year of issue for this aesthetic design type, only 508,000 pieces were produced. It has a mattelike aspect with some of its luster retained, even though it has experienced a light cleaning. Dappled toning flecks are lightly strewn on the obverse of this nicely struck issue exhibiting a medium silver aspect.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

670The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$850.00
1916-S PCGS AU-50.
1916-S often seems underrated in circulated grades, as it just doesn't show up very often above VG. The PCGS example offered here comes much closer to UNC than usual, as it delivers most of the...
521The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$925.00
1916-S AU/cleaned.
Devices exhibit chalky texture, a telltale sign of cleaning. Still, considerable luster remains in the fields, since this coin circulated only briefly and retains AU-55 details. Storage in an album...
614The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,800.00
1916-S AU details/dipped, 1917-D (reverse) AU, and 1919-S XF...
Prodigious detail accompanies this trio of early Walking Liberty half-dollars, and it is lamentable that all are cleaned and too white. Respective details-only grades are offered as: 1916-S (AU-50),...
615The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,300.00
1916-S and 1917-S Reverse AU.
Favorable luster can be seen on both of these San Francisco pieces. 1916-S has MS-60 details accompanied by a minor vertical scratch right of Liberty's head. The tin-grey patina is rather odd and may...
507The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$380.00
1916-S PCGS VF-20.
Typical definition for the "very fine" level includes some bust line detail for this early key date Walking Liberty half-dollar. Housed in a green label PCGS holder. From the Corn Cob Estate.
615The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$360.00
1916-S VF.
This is a key date coin that has seen some abuse. It has the detail of an XF-40+, but suffers from a significant rim ding and was further insulted by being cleaned with a pencil eraser.
