Because the strike is off-center nearly due west, the date and O mintmark remain securely on the flan, an important consideration for the collector of vintage error coins. Good luck locating another half-dollar this nice, much less one struck in New Orleans. Any commendable off-center Seated coin commands an extremely strong premium in the marketplace, and few escaped even the primitive quality control in place at the mint in 1850. An original ivory-grey coin, still lustrous despite the errant strike. (PCGS# 005416)
