1908 Motto. MS-60. 1908 Motto. MS-60.
Lot Title: 1908 Motto. MS-60.
Description: A classic "look" for the MS-60 grade, rub on neither the Indian's cheek nor on the eagle's shoulder. Surfaces display no individual major marks, but instead shows a plethora of tiny bagmarks typical of a gold coin of this heft. (PCGS# 008859)

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

High Estimate: $800.00

988The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$5,250.00
1908 Motto NGC MS-64+.
A full-blown gem at arm's length, only magnification brings into focus a handful of light, narrow abrasions on the cheek. They cannot readily be seen otherwise, and the reverse is perhaps even more...
957The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$1,600.00
1908 Motto. PCGS MS-63.
Bidders will be thrilled by the surfaces that exhibit so few marks, and provide lovely medium-gold illumination of the primary devices. Indeed, if not for sporadic, feathery near-vertical hairlines,...
547The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$1,000.00
1908 Motto. NGC MS-62.
Seemingly a lot nicer than average for MS-62, there is no distraction visible on either side without a glass, and even magnification reveals a rather clean portrait. Some slight rub at the center of...
548The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$1,900.00
1908 Motto. PCGS MS-63.
Strictly original and ideally medium-gold, the obverse exhibits a fairly clean cheek and the trivial distraction of only a single contact mark within the war bonnet, although there are three minor...
1158The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$2,500.00
1908 Motto, 1910-D, and 1911. NGC MS-61.
Cartwheel luster glides effortlessly across the surfaces of this trio of gold Eagles, all graded MS-61 by NGC. The 1908 "no motto" and 1910-D have dusty-gold color, while the 1911 is a little...
815The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,050.00
1908 Motto. PCGS MS-62.
Innumerable micro-abrasions speckle the lower left obverse field, yet the overall impression of this gold eagle is one of a very clean coin. Trivial shallow abrasion also emerge on Liberty's cheek...
1202The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$585.00
1908 Motto. PCGS AU-55.
What seems to be full mint luster would have allowed this coin to easily pass as being fully BU in the days before certification. Certainly, Liberty's portrait is profusely affected by tiny handling...
1022The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$950.00
1908 Motto. PCGS MS-62.
Without question, some noise on Liberty's cheek is the grade-defining factor, as this coin seems choice otherwise. Decently struck and bathed in mint luster.
1115The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$685.00
1908 Motto. NGC MS-61.
A couple of scuffs appear on Liberty’s cheek, and only a few minuscule abrasions rest in the obverse field. Some strike weakness is seen at the Eagle’s shoulder.
1116The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$1,150.00
1908 Motto. PCGS MS-62.
Ash grey color touches the high points on both sides, lending original appeal to this gold coin. The strike is fairly average, but a vertical mark on the Indian's cheek seemingly bars consideration...
1117The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$3,200.00
1908 Motto. NGC MS-64.
Vibrant luster bestows distinguished eye appeal upon the energetically struck devices, and flaxen gold color is evenly and consistently distributed across both sides. A single peck atop the bridge of...
1122The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$600.00
1908 Motto. NGC MS-61.
An intense, vibrant yellow-gold glistens from the surfaces of this piece, effectually bringing about a splendid cartwheel aspect. A sprinkling of minute ticks is ascribed for this crisply struck...
527The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$2,900.00
1908 Motto. PCGS MS-64.
This Motto variety Eagle is exceptionally appealing. It has a vivid satinlike textured surface quality with a glowing yellow-gold hue. A scant number of contact ticks are observed on this...
1160The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$2,100.00
1908 Motto PCGS MS-63.
Housed in an older, smaller PCGS holder, so it's no surprise that it is conservatively graded by today's standards. It appears to be a lock MS-64, shot MS-65. A mixture of yellow-gold and...
