(About The Images)
1873 CLOSED 3. NGC PF-66+. 1873 CLOSED 3. NGC PF-66+.
Lot Title: 1873 CLOSED 3. NGC PF-66+.
Description: A resounding, superior GEM, this fantastic proof shield nickel gleams with chromelike brilliance, with the entire coin unaffected by even the slightest hint of toning. NGC did not provide a "cameo" designation, but close examination readily shows attractive contrast on both sides, in all areas, except perhaps a few of isolated recesses within the more intricate areas of detail. Speaking of detail, the strike is just as sharp as one expects even for an early proof nickel, with very little planchet granularity to detract. A nice coin, with nice cameo whether or not the slab label indicates so. (PCGS# 003827)

Clem Stevens Collection. Very sharp and definitely nicer than expected of PF-64, with no hairlines readily visible. A couple of minute, threadlike strike-throughs should not affect the grade, and...

1873 CLOSED 3. NGC PF-65 CAC.
A clean, no-nonsense proof nickel, the NGC PF-65 grade reflects a high level of circulation strike demeanor, without frills or concerns over cameo designations. Very little contrast is apparent...

1873 Closed 3. NGC PF-65+ CAC.
The surfaces are aluminum-white and feature a fairly low-contrast presentation, even though the devices are faintly textured. Numerous tiny, fragile planchet depressions appear on the obverse, none...

1873 CLOSED 3. NGC PF-66.
Devices are sharply impressed everywhere, including the "1" in the date, which is nicely repunched. Glittering surfaces are not quite deeply reflective, yet still offer pleasing contrast with...
