Lot Title:
1870 PCGS PF-58.
Description:
The reverse presents no obvious wear at all, although the obverse shows a touch of friction and some faint, shallow abrasions that suggest light handling. Could this be a much scarcer circulation strike, rather than a proof as indicated by PCGS? The central Roman "I" shows a chip out of the top, and this same side also displays quite a bit of normal cartwheel luster, although the rims do display some of the "knifelike effect" one expects of increased striking pressure. The obverse was obviously very reflective at one point, so the discussion of proof versus circulation strike will have takers on both sides for this piece. (PCGS# 003721)
