Lot Title:

Washington quarter collection 1932 through 1992-S.
|
Description:
|
Much better quality than usual pervades this outstanding Dansco collection of Washington quarters. UNC coins dominate the album, except that as usual, some coins on the first page display signs of circulation, though none should grade below AU-50. Coins that should fall somewhere in the AU range will include 1932-D, 1932-S, 1934, 1935-D, 1936, 1936-D, 1936-S, 1938, 1939-D, 1940-D, and perhaps a couple of others ... and most of these should still see the upper level of that grade. Furthermore, the signs are all there that these coins have been in the album a long time (the collector stopped adding to the set in 1992!), since many have acquired toning. Interestingly, the bottom row of four coins on every page generally see the most tone, indicating likely proximity to a mild heat source, and in some cases, the effect is nearly jaw-dropping, as it includes coins not normally seen so well colored. The list includes 1940-PDS, 1941-PD, 1948-DS (the 1948-D is extremely attractive), 1949-PD (1949 is spectacular), 1957-PD, 1958-PD, 1959, 1969-S proof, 1970-PDS (1970-S is to die for), 1971, 1978-PDS (1978-S is just simply amazing), 1979-PD, 1983-P, 1985-S (gorgeous), 1986-PDS (1986-S is delightful), and 1987-P. Numerous other coins throughout the pages display some album toning as well. Collectors of toned coins simply must not forget to look through this set, as one rarely gets to see such late date clad quarters sporting amazing color.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
