Lot Title:
Five three-cent pieces.
Description:
Common but early 3-cent nickels display some die-variety characteristics that may interest a few collectors. [Alternative grades] are offered since these are not necessarily in the third-party slabs that most collectors prefer. A lone 1865 (ACG MS-64 [AU-55]) features a prominent die-crack directly over Liberty's head. Comprising a quartet of 1866 coins, all in PCI holders, are an AU-55 (obverse planchet lamination, shattered reverse die), another AU-55 [XF-40] (faulty planchet, shattered reverse die), XF-40 [VF-30] (rim cud, DDO, as attributed), and F-12 (shattered reverse die). Five coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
