Lot Title: 1797 9x7 Large Letters (B-1a). PCGS XF details/rim scrape/lightly cleaned.
Description: The appearance at first blush is that of an incredibly original coin, with a delicate layer lead-grey patina over the entire coin, but closer inspection begins to reveal some issues that require mention. Tilting the coin back and forth demonstrates some unusual texture in the fields that could be evidence of light tooling, though more likely, the coin was simply too aggressively cleaned at one time. A number of feathery but noticeable hairlines parallel beneath LIBERTY, with the reverse similarly wiped. Fortunately, both sides are generally free from marks, the only area requiring mention being that next to stars 7 - 9. The obverse extreme left rim may also have been very lightly filed, but nowhere are there any rim bumps of note. (PCGS# 006863)

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
