Lot Title:
1848 AU.
Description:
While not rare, it is certainly always a pleasure to occasionally have an opportunity to collect earlier dated half-eagles at really only minimal numismatic premiums. Plenty of luster rolls off the fields of this nicer example, with duo-toned yellow-gold and chartreuse patina layered over well struck devices. (PCGS# 008236)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

Although having a mintage of 260,775, this date is rather scarce, especially in loftier grades. This lot presents a sharply struck example and has a charming lustrous aspect on rich gold surfaces... |
