Lot Title:
1863 PCGS PF-64.
Description:
Seemingly undergraded by a point, this is a nearly sensational little jewel that also lacks a "cameo" designation on the slab insert. One can easily consider upgrade attempts on either count. It is true that delicate tobacco-brown toning in the obverse fields tends to downplay the contrast on that side, but at some point, grading services really need to get past the tendency to reserve the "cameo" designation only for "white" coins. An attractively toned proof half-dime like this deserves to retain its character and receive the proper accolades for potent reflectivity that lurks behind the nicely frosted devices. A GEM no matter what the label says! (PCGS# 004446)
