Lot Title:

1850-C PCGS AU-58.
Description:
Population statistics affirm scarcity of the 1850-C in high grades, as PCGS has graded 15 at AU-58, and only 40 higher. A quick glance immediately brings to bear the bright lemon-yellow color common to Charlotte gold, with reverberations of semi-prooflike reflectivity noticeable in the fields. The coin would be even more prooflike if not for the myriad tiny ticks and abrasions always seen. Exquisite details are exceptionally well rendered on the obverse, while the eagle's legs and talons are not as well defined. Basically, the strike is awfully nice for the issue. Cataloger's note: the slab is slightly chipped at the upper left corner. (PCGS# 007756)

1850-C AU-50 Lightly Cleaned.
A scant 9,148 is the recorded mintage for this Charlotte Branch Mint issue. Although ascribed as lightly cleaned, it exhibits a wonderful orange-gold aspect with some peripheral luster still present.... |
