Lot Title:
1864 PCGS PF-63.
Description:
An obvious candidate as a "cameo" proof, PCGS seems bent on excluding moderately toned coins from ever seeing such designation. Nonetheless, the textural contrast is definitely there, with Liberty's portrait particularly well frosted against the reflective fields. Deeper toning cloaks the obverse while the reverse is fairly close to white, and neither side is particularly hairlined as is typical of the PF-63 grade. Rather, a sequence of odd tiny marks in the obverse upper right field seem to be the grade defining factor. Crumbs of odd whitish gunk are visible within the digits of the date. (PCGS# 006418)
