Lot Title:

1829 (JR-10, R.6) Curl Base 2 PCGS Genuine (code 92/Fine details/cleaned).
|
Description:
|
Solid "very-good" details are borne out by quick and easy confirmation of partial central details on Liberty's portrait, and a readable motto on the reverse. The Reiver coin was straight-graded G-4 and had slightly more detail than the present piece, but was also cleaned, so one might question why PCGS couldn't just put this moderately abraded example into a straight-grade holder in order to help establish to the condition census. At any rate, the "cleaning" referenced by "code 92" is generally not bad at all, as the coin overall appears to have normal grey patina with charcoal accents. What may have denied the possibility of a straight-grade could be the fact that the date area was lightly erasered, perhaps by someone who could not believe what he had cherry-picked, and just had to know "for sure". An ancient, trivial pinscratch shows up above the first three digits as well, but overall, less distraction than expected of a well circulated early pieces bears notice on either side. (PCGS# 004512)

1829 and 1832, both with XF details.

1829 shows considerable white luster and might very easily qualify for an AU grade. 1832 could possibly grade XF-45 to AU as well, though in this case, surfaces exhibit a considerable amount of... |

1829 JR-7 SEGS AU-58 Light Scratches.
|
SEGS has described this Bust Dime as AU-58 Light Scratches with pinpoint accuracy, in our opinion. The scratches are practically unnoticeable with the naked eye, and are revealed under a loupe as a... |
