Readily available in common mint-state, 1931-D becomes much tougher at the present PCGS MS-66 FB grade, with population statistics showing 158 at this grade, but only 42 graded higher. This from an original mintage of almost 1.3 million! Here is a brightly glistening example with no trace of tone, and a strike that leaves no doubt about the "FB" designation; the central band is wide as a railroad track and just as straight. A pleasing very-gem coin for the dime specialist. (PCGS# 004985)
