Lot Title:
1877 and 1888, both NGC MS-62.
Description:
1877 features a distinct touch of apricot-beige toning, and both sides are quite flatly struck, especially for a dime of this vintage. 1888 is silvery bright, but was struck by a defective die. Reasonable sharpness in the central areas abruptly loses much definition closer to the rims. A gorgeous die crack encircles the reverse and explains the strike problem: the die was clearly failing, it's periphery crumbling away under the stress of excessive use. A terrific pair of strike-sensitive coins for the die specialist in this two coin lot.
