Lot Title:
1807 large stars, 50 over 20 (O-112, R.1) NGC AU-53.
Description:
Brightness of the pearl-white surfaces will alarm some collectors who search for early silver coins with more patina, but it is comforting to note that the surfaces do not display any notable hairlines, and flowline luster is really strong, penetrating well into the fields in places. O-112 is one of the 50/20 Redbook varieties, and examples tend to come flatly struck, with this particular coin a minor step up from the usual. There is fairly bold definition in the cascading tresses, although the curls behind and just beneath the ear are flat. The same characteristic strike deficiency is responsible for minor flatness at the top of the eagle's left (observed) wing. (PCGS# 039356)
