(About The Images)
1857 PCGS XF-40. 1857 PCGS XF-40.
Lot Title: 1857 PCGS XF-40.
Description: There is just something really, really cool about honestly circulated gold, and this 1857 eagle has "it". Deep, old brassy-gold patina crowds out every possible remnant of luster, but that's quite all right, considering the amount of smooth, even wear. Liberty's portrait and definitely the obverse stars have lost all finer details, and flatness shows in the eagle's wings. Interestingly, 1857 is a slightly better date in the series, commanding maybe a 10% premium over the most common issues, even in XF. (PCGS# 008622)
