Lot Title:
1867-S NGC F-12.
Description:
Honestly circulated gold has a "coolness factor" that museum pieces can only dream of, and when the particular coin is a scarcer issue, that only elevates desirability. 1867-S is definitely a scarcer date in the half-eagle series, and even a coin grading only "fine" is valuable. A great deal of wear has smoothed down the finer details for this NGC example, but LIBERTY is bold except at the first letter, and the mintmark is slightly weak, as are the lower inscriptions on the reverse. 1867-S ANACS VF-30 Details, Cleaned.
Rather trivially cleaned, as the surfaces are, at worst, only faintly abraded and not thickly hairlined. Moderately worn, with tenacious mint luster clinging to the edges of the portrait, and a... |
