Lot Title:
1904 PCGS PF-65.
Description:
The obverse is thoroughly doused in rich, dusky patina, clearly the result of long and proper numismatic storage. When the light is captured just right, blazing sea-green color jumps off the fields, ceding here and there to a fruity blend of cinnamon-grape and blueberry hue, with Liberty's portrait encrusted by finely textured mauve toning. The reverse is no less exciting, with the upper central area blazing with nearly full brilliance, fading gently into pleasing earth-brown tones. Even discounting the thick patina, it seems unlikely this proof will display strong cameo effect, since proofs of the era seldom do, but the sharpness is all there, right down to the individual segments in the eagle's claws. (PCGS# 006551)
