(About The Images)
1900 Lafayette Dollar. XF. 1900 Lafayette Dollar. XF.
Lot Title: 1900 Lafayette Dollar. XF.
Description: The American troops numbered fewer than two-hundred men, led by General John Pershing, and they paraded through Paris amidst the roaring cheers of the French people lining the streets. "Vive l'Amerique! Vive l'Amerique!" admirers shouted, encouraging the presence of their ally, here to put an end to Germany's quest for domination of the continent. At the end of the proceedings, the Americans arrived at the grave of one Marie Joseph Yves Roches Gilbert du Motier, better known to them as Marquis de Lafayette. It was there that Colonel Charles Stanton paid him the ultimate honor, solemnly swearing "Nous Voila, Lafayette!" -- Lafayette, we are here. The Lafayette dollar immortalizes the connection between George Washington and Lafayette, and this example is an exceptionally attractive, original piece that has served its own duty well, circulating lightly and developing a marvelous, grey patina with charcoal accents. Easily an XF coin and worth every penny of any high bid. (PCGS# 009222)

We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

377The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$1,000.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar NGC MS-63.
The luster is unexpectedly nice for MS-63 in spite of deeper ash-gold patina on both sides that has been sprinkled with crumbs of darker tobacco-gold. This is a nice "antique" aesthetic scheme for a...
503The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$700.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. ANACS MS-62.
Not entirely white, the obverse benefits from the nuances of toast-gold toning starting to form near the rims, while the reverse bears deeper saturation of similar golden-grey patina. Very decent...
504The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$825.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar NGC MS-62+.
Seemingly a lock for Choice BU, the MS-62+ grade seems curiously pessimistic given pleasing wideband luster and a prevalently clean appearance. A shift in texture at Washington's cheek appears to be...
505The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$5,750.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCGS MS-65.
Memorable luster dominates the eye-appeal conferred by the eggshell-white surface. Potent, subdued brilliance beckons beneath the fragile layer of patina, and one gets the sense that the coin is one...
531The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$4,100.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar NGC MS-65.
Eunice Peters Estate. 198 graded MS-65, 67 higher at NGC. Only a delicate layer of toning makes its presence felt, composed of rather seductive pumpkin-grey and powder blue notes that mingle...
1053The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$450.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCGS AU-58.
Extensive luster lies almost complete all the way through the fields, and finds only a dash of wear on the high elevation of Washington's cheek and hair curls. Many Lafayette dollars have toned...
1054The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$1,250.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. NGC MS-63.
Resplendent yet tastefully distributed paper-holder toning brings out the best in this terrific Lafayette dollar, a coin that is tough as can be to locate "nice". Pewter-grey patina layers just...
1055The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$6,750.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCGS MS-65.
Within the realm of classic silver commemorative coins, the Lafayette dollar is one that rarely shows up white, and when it does, the collectors must almost immediately decide whether it has ever been...
1085The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$1,100.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCGS MS-63 (green label).
Steam-grey patina occupies nearly the entire surface, ceding to pewter-white recesses between the letters at the periphery. All in all, this understated appearance is surprisingly effective for...
270The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$400.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. AU details/cleaned.
Effects of a mild cleaning are not overly dramatic, with short, narrow hairlines concentrated mostly in the obverse right field. Each side is a little bright, but most of the original luster remains...

1900 Lafayette Dollar. ANACS Net AU-50/scratched/cleaned and 1893...
The Lafayette dollar is not heavily cleaned, but is a little dull from myriad hairlines. A collector on a budget could easily use this in an affordable BU commemorative set. The Isabella appears...
453The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$390.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. AU.
Quality of the luster is unexpectedly nice for a Lafayette dollar that has never been certified, with sharp cartwheel effect and silver-white appearance that are suggestive of a lower mint-state...
374The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$500.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar AU/cleaned.
Terrific luster sizzles nicely around the fields and produces an appearance not very far from mint-state. Wispy hairlines appear sporadically under magnification, but do not inhibit the cartwheel...
376The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$550.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. NGC AU-58.
Perhaps a technically uncirculated coin, but excessively pale luster lacks vibrancy and myriad tiny marks probably do indicate brief mishandling.
390The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$2,800.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCGS MS-64.
Fantastic aluminum-white luster pervades each side, resulting in a bright, luminous appearance that is quite scarce and desirable for a Lafayette dollar. Not a speck of toning is to be found...
1106The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$320.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. AU/cleaned.
Ample flowline luster remains despite the detrimental effects of a mild cleaning, and artificial toning has been applied most likely to reduce the effect of hairlines. The overall visual impact is...
1107The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$1,325.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCGS MS-63.
Pewter surfaces are embraced on the obverse by golden color that drapes across the left side and a hint of lavender color on the right, while the reverse is more consistently patinated in a mixture of...

1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCGS MS-64.
Invigorating mint luster emanates profusely from silver centers that diminish in intensity just a bit toward the rims, where a mere breath of gold color resides. The fresh, satiny surfaces suggest...

1900 Lafayette commemorative silver dollar, PCGS AU-55
Steel-grey blends with a bit of tan color arcing above the conjoined celebrities on the obverse, while the reverse features more of the tan color, plus the addition of a thin cobalt ring around the...
1247The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$625.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. AU Dipped.
Although almost certainly dipped at one time, this popular commemorative dollar has successfully recovered from any past abuses with virtually no misgivings. Indeed, it literally presents a nicer...

1900 Lafayette Dollar. SEGS MS-64.
A bright white Commemorative Dollar with minimal and slight hairlines. It is fully struck and bright white. It appears to have been dipped.
1190The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$750.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. AU/MS-60.
This is a well-struck dollar that has just a smidge of wear. Much worse examples have been observed in MS holders. There is some toning on this coin that may not be considered original.
1191The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$625.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCI MS-62.
On the whole, this coin is fully lustrous and problem free. There are three countermarks on the portrait that will hold this coin back from upgrading. Wonderful gold and russet tones adorn the...
1192The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$2,700.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCGS MS-64.
Soft russet toning blends wonderfully with the original silver surfaces. The luster is fairly strong, and the marks are mostly minor. Just one nick on Washington's cheek being the only exception. ...
1537The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$300.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. AU-50.
This popular issue is basically untoned save for a few darker toned flecks on the reverse at the rims. Light hairlines and minor surfaces marks are consistent for the grade. Nicely detailed design...

1900 Lafayette Dollar. AU-58.
This is a completely original dollar that has very attractive toning. There are minimal marks, original mint luster, and no distractions you would not expect for an AU-58. This would make a super...

1541The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$775.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. SEGS MS-63.
This is a very interesting coin indeed. Nice toning has grown around the devices of the obverse and reverse giving it a pleasing antique look.

1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCGS MS-60.
This early Commemorative Silver Dollar issue is mainly encountered in grades ranging from Very Fine through About Uncirculated, with many designated uncirculated actually being "sliders." The present...

903The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$0.00
1900 Lafayette Dollar. PCI MS-63.
