Lot Title:
1797 (JR-2) 13 Stars. About Good details/portrait tooled.
Description:
No obvious reason can be discerned to explain why Liberty's portrait was completely and extensively tooled, although the uneven texture suggests removal of offending graffiti or gouges. The portrait is now comically pale compared to the rest of the coin, which is very choice otherwise. Peripheral obverse details are strong, with much of the dentilation complete and well defined, while the reverse displays only some central details. (PCGS# 004463)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
