Lot Title:

1798/7 16 Stars (JR-1, R.3). VF details/cleaned/holed/plugged.
|
Description:
|
Ex-Stack's, Rich Uhrich Collection, 2/26/2008: 1476. Sharpness is amazing, probably at the VF-30 level, and possibly with hints of luster still evident within the devices. A hole through "9" in the date has been plugged and repaired with astonishing skill, as variation in surface texture is undetectable from the obverse, and only discoloration in the area on that side exposes the repair. From the reverse, the plug is less expertly masked, with a partial outline of the added metal still evident. For the collector with limited resources, one could not ask for a better type coin, offering a great majority of the original detail, not to mention very decent eye-appeal. (PCGS# 004468)
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
