Lot Title:

1916-S PCGS MS-67 CAC.
Description:
Ex-PCGS 4908.67/06164914. Numerically, no 1916-S Mercury dime has ever graded higher than MS-67, even though a mintage of 10 million pieces, plus likelihood of being saved as a first-year-of-issue coin should have led to more superb gems surviving to the present day. It is difficult to imagine that competing examples in MS-67 would exceed the appeal of this one, as the entire coin exhibits copious jeweled luster and delightful coloration, particularly on the obverse. Only in terms of sharpness does technical evaluation leave something to be desired, as the center of both sides is a little soft, negating any chance of a FSB designation. Nonetheless, the happy conjunction of lovely album tone and that mesmerizing luster make this a very desirable dime. Only ten grade MS-67 at PCGS, although curiously, 17 more have been assigned MS-67 FB. (PCGS# 004908)
