Lot Title:
1890 NGC PF-65 CAMEO CAC.
Description:
Inclusion of a cameo proof coronet gold piece in any collection automatically makes a statement that the collector is serious about refinement in quality and prestige, as all examples of all denominations are rare, exciting and marvelous to behold. Flawless color and contrast are apparent on both sides of the present example, with the frosted devices framed beautifully by shimmering, moderately textured and luminescent fields. The rich flame-gold color seems just about ideal, touched with deeper orange accents on the obverse rim. Two small contact marks are elevated in the obverse left field above Liberty's brow and provide the only noticeable distractions, and probably put a cap on grade consideration. An interesting die scratch within the vertical shield lines is characteristics of this particular reverse proof die, which was used on many, but not all, 1890 proof strikings. (PCGS# 087916)
