Lot Title:
1783 Wash, Large Military Bust. PCGS MS-62BN.
Description:
Exquisite sharpness displays no perceptible wear on either side, and most all the marks located with a loupe are tiny and non-distracting. A single curving abrasion on Washington's forward cheek follows the contour and is easy to miss. The surfaces are deep brown, with a couple of patches of lighter copper hue in the reverse left field. Though intended to represent General Washington, whose military victories concluded the Revolutionary War in 1783, the portrait is actually that of Lord Wellington, as the same punch was originally used for the Wellington peninsular tokens.
