(About The Images)
1880-CC 80/79, Reverse of 1878 (VAM-4, Top 100). PCGS MS-63. 1880-CC 80/79, Reverse of 1878 (VAM-4, Top 100). PCGS MS-63.
Lot Title: 1880-CC 80/79, Reverse of 1878 (VAM-4, Top 100). PCGS MS-63.
Description: Popularity of VAM-4 endures due to the nice overdate and the unusual pairing of an 1880 obverse with a reverse of 1878. In this early die-state, the underdigit "9" is particularly noticeable with a glass. The MS-63 grade assigned seems appropriate, but the eye-appeal may surpass technical qualifications, since both sides depict a hint of prooflike character. Liberty's portrait is nicely frosted, though interrupted by a number of minuscule abrasions. Nearly untoned, the surfaces display only a hint of light beige toning on the devices. (PCGS# 007108)

764The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$825.00
1880/79-CC Reverse of 1878 GSA Soft Pack NGC MS-62.
1880/79-CC proves to be extremely difficult to locate in a GSA soft-pack holder, as auction and sales records are spotty at best, and that makes this an unusual opportunity for the collector. ...
765The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$575.00
1880-CC 80/79, reverse 1878 GSA NGC MS-63.
Box and certificate included. Nearly pure white with faint apricot accents near the reverse center. Under-digits for "79" remain unusually strong for this familiar and popular Redbook variety. ...
766The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$625.00
1880/79-CC reverse of 1878 (VAM-4) GSA NGC MS-63.
Box and certificate included. In direct contrast to open, clean fields, Liberty's portrait displays almost innumerable tiny ticks. This is just as expected of the grade for an early CC dollar,...
698The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$550.00
1880-CC 80 OVER 79, REVERSE OF 1878 GSA NGC MS-62.
The Blitzer Collection. The NGC MS-62 grade seems a trifle more conservative than usual for GSA dollars, although this 1880-CC does show light abrading of Liberty's cheek. A delicate touch of...
700The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$975.00
1880-CC 80 OVER 79, REVERSE OF 1878. GSA MS-64.
The Knob Lick GSA Collection. VAM-4, Top-100. This coin provides a very slight hint of the prooflike quality sometimes seen on early strikes, although overall, it is simply a frosty white example. ...
701The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$1,200.00
1880-CC 80 OVER 79, REVERSE OF 1878. GSA MS-64.
The Knob Lick GSA Collection. VAM-4, Top-100. Collectors readily recognize 1880/79-CC as a semi-key to the Morgan dollar series in very high grade, although this example probably grades only MS-64...
702The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$775.00
1880-CC 80 OVER 79, REVERSE OF 1878. PCGS MS-64.
Snowy with blizzard-white frost in the fields and additional shivering frostiness over Liberty's portrait. As is virtually always the case for this GSA issue, Liberty's cheek has been well abraded,...
769The Collectors' Auction 2011 on 10/21/2011$1,600.00
1880/79-CC, reverse of 1878 (VAM-4), GSA ANACS MS-63 Cameo/DMPL.
MS-63 DMPL appears to be the perfect grade, considering the difficulty of confirming reflectivity in a GSA holder. None of the contact marks is individually distracting, but as usual, the fine...
