Lot Title:

Complete set of Fine or better Walking Liberty half-dollars in Capital Plastic cases.
|
Description:
|
While a complete set of Walkers is easy to assemble in lower grades (AG to Good), even a minor upgrade to the VG level represents a significant advance in value, and at the Fine and VF levels, a number of the keys rapidly become quite expensive. Obviously, great care was taken in assembling this set, both in terms of original pieces, and recognition of better grades. The coins are divided between two Capital Plastics holders of rather unusual nature, with clear acrylic shells protecting enclosed coin boards, and in the second board, all the mintmarked pieces were placed with reverses in view. Every single coin grades Fine at the very minimum, which means that even the early dates display at least some all-important central detail. Further, not a single piece displays any blatant problems, although the 1916-S, 1917-S rev and 1918 may have been modestly cleaned. The most important coins are highlighted as follows: 1916 (VF), 1916-D (VF), 1916-S (F/lightly cleaned), 1917-D obv (VF), 1917-D rev (VF), 1917-S obv (F), 1917-S rev (VF/lightly cleaned), 1918-D (VF), 1918-S (VF), 1919 (Fine+), 1919-D (VF), 1919-S (VF), 1920-D (VF), 1920-S (VF), 1921 (Fine+), 1921-D (Fine+), 1921-S (Fine+), 1923-S (VF), and 1938-D (VF). Savvy collectors will note that most of these keys have been upgraded just up to the first big jump in value. ALL others graded VF at minimum, with a handful at the XF level, and by staying within this range, the set is given a nice, overall mostly consistent silver-grey appearance. Sixty-five coin lot.
This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
