Description: The First National Bank of Wellston, Missouri. Wellston today faces serious economic challenges, and is considered one of the ten poorest Missouri cities in terms of per capita income. The city is named for Erastus Wells, a businessman who was also the father of Rolla Wells, later Governor of the Federal Reserve Bank branch in St. Louis. The Dec 9, 1905 date seen on this twenty actually predates the city's founding in 1909. Of particular interest are the signatures for this note, signed in deep violet by both the president and cashier of the bank.
