(About The Images)
1862 PCGS MS-63. 1862 PCGS MS-63.
Lot Title: 1862 PCGS MS-63.
Description: Struck during the dark, early days of the Civil War, 1862 still boasts a magnificent production run of 1,361,390 coins. Thus, it is readily available in any grade, but particularly populous at the old-fashioned BU level. Subtle luster glints from the fields of this example, attenuated perhaps by the striking limitations of moderately clashed dies. A couple of handling blemishes appear on the cheek, and a dot of greenish stuff appears within the "6" of the date.
Low Estimate: $750.00
High Estimate: $850.00

990The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$260.00
1862 ANACS AU-58.
Courteous Collection of Early Type. UNC at arm's length, the ANACS small holder properly denotes delicate handling by virtue of the AU-58 grade, with that assessment best verified by very mild...
991The Collectors' Auction - 2014 on 10/17/2014$425.00
1862 NGC MS-62.
Popular as a Civil War date, and attractive due to an appealing strike and good luster, this 1862 gold dollar will be approached with some expectations of upgrade. Look a little closer in order to...
905The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$575.00
1862 PCGS MS-63.
Spectacular from the standpoint of vintage quality, either side displays a lovely, well-balanced mixture of orange-gold and butterscotch toning that takes decades to develop. The dies produced...
1042The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$725.00
1862 Uncirculated.
Odds seem to be strongly in favor of at least an MS-62 grade, with plenty of opportunity remaining to see an even higher grade than that. The whole coin boasts luminous golden frost layered perfectly...
1064The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$550.00
1862 ICG MS-63.
Some collectors avoid ICG-graded coins, but for this 1862 dollar, the MS-63 grade seems perfectly matched with the excellent quality offered. Both sides offer perfect medium-gold color with no spots,...
779The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$2,800.00
1862 NGC MS-66.
A rambunctious strike has brought up virtually full details on either side, and indications are that the dies were fairly fresh. Liberty's portrait is delicately textured, in contrast to sharply...
993The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$390.00
1862 ICG MS-62.
As if each side has been mildly wiped a time or two, quite a few delicate micro-hairlines crowd into the fields. Fortunately, their net effect is too small to have severe impact on the cottony...
930The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$350.00
1862 MS-62.
In many respects, the grade seems like it could be much higher, since the fields possess marvelous luster and the strike is terrific. Several erratic luster grazes and two tiny divots in front of...
1060The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$370.00
1862 NGC MS-62.
A very frosty coin that shows extensive evidence of multiple die clashes. In fact, some letters of LIBERTY can be made out on the reverse, and the obverse fields are crowded with many raised areas...
854The Midwest Winter Sale 2009 on 02/13/2009$700.00
1862 PCGS MS-63.
Formidable eye appeal shines forth, generated by outstanding mint luster and silky smooth vintage gold surfaces. An impeccable type coin for the large-diameter gold dollar, housed in a PCGS green...
882The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$775.00
1862 NGC MS-63.
Examination with a loupe reveals nice strike doubling of the obverse, and also affords an opportunity to view the tiniest numerals used on the date of any U.S. issue. Beaming with fresh mint luster.
927The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$340.00
1862 NGC MS-62.
Unusual for such a petite coin, the luster displays in the tortoise shell pattern usually reserved for much larger denominations. A paper thin planchet flaw in the lower left quadrant of the obverse...
928The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$390.00
1862 NGC MS-62.
A very slightly prooflike obverse is paired with a reverse that is more typically lustrous. Not much patination is retained on either face, but a crescent of copper color glows from the left side of...
926The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$340.00
1862 NGC MS-62.
A yellow-gold radiance is emitted from this specimen's satinlike surfaces. Its vivid visual aspect somewhat cloaks the minimal ticks and delicate hairlines that are apparent. The detail definition...
344The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$850.00
1862 NGC MS-64.
Glowing with an intense yellow-gold warmth, this Type III Gold Dollar issue has vibrant lustrous surfaces that are devoid of unsightly marks or blemishes. The boldly struck design elements contribute...
987The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$170.00
1862 ANACS AU-55.
This coin has a strong date and minimal marks. Rolling luster is visible on both the obverse and reverse. It is nice for the assigned grade.
988The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$300.00
1862 NGC MS-62.
The MS-62 grade is a bit surprising on this lovely Princess that appears MS-63. There are no major marks, but when the coin is tilted, a few minor lines can be seen. Void of any toning flecks.
