(About The Images)
1927-S PCGS AU-50 (green label). 1927-S PCGS AU-50 (green label).
Lot Title: 1927-S PCGS AU-50 (green label).
Description: Housed in a PCGS green-label holder, this shimmering 1927-D Standing Liberty quarter seems blatantly undergraded even after persistent examination. While it is true that the luster is overly white, as if the coin had been dipped (perhaps multiple times), the fact of the matter is that no harm was done, and the flowline texture remains completely intact and vibrant after eighty years. Hints of golden-bronze tone had begun to take hold of some highpoint details before the coin was encapsulated, preventing further acquisition of additional color. Aside from such technical discussion, the strike was imparted from worn dies that had clashed multiple times, resulting in rather soft details overall.
Low Estimate: $1,800.00
High Estimate: $2,100.00
Lot Status: Bidding has been closed for this lot.

613The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$432.00
1927-S PCGS VF-30.
LES Set. Lead-grey patina is not as dull as one might guess, probably because there is a hint of underlying cartwheel action trying to peek through the patina. Moderately worn overall, with...
674The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$450.00
1927-S PCGS VF-35.
New World Estate. Minor discoloration on the reverse should prove to be of minimal concern, as the smooth, even beige-tan patina on the obverse shows no spots nor stains to distract, and that is the...
549The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$210.00
Three 1927-S PCGS F-12.
The consignor originally submitted these in hopes of getting a VF out of the deal, and actually, one coin does have noticeably stronger detail than its companions, despite the same F-12 grade...
664The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$380.00
1927-S PCGS VF-30.
Skillfully graded, the PCGS VF-30 assessment gives the perfect connotation of slight mint luster, fully original surfaces and bold remaining details. The patina has taken on a pleasing level of...
431The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$1,700.00
1927-S AU/lightly cleaned.
That 1927-S is a key to the Standing Liberty quarter series is most true in better circulated grades. Below VF, it is probably a little overpriced, but likewise it may be underrated at the AU level...
539The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$775.00
1927-S PCGS XF-45.
This low mintage issue, second in recorded ranking, is a formidable challenge to acquire, no matter what the assigned grade status. It is imbued with a magnificent antique silver aspect with surfaces...
1082The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$2,400.00
1927-S PCGS AU-55.
This specimen's satinlike brilliancy is enhanced by a tantalizing iridescent quality. A meager amount of ticks are noted, and only the slightest trace of wear is detected. Characteristically, this...
1083The Collector's Auction on 10/20/2006$11,250.00
1927-S PCGS MS-65.
Housed in an older style PCGS holder, this is an elegant specimen of an important date. It is predominantly satin white with a breath of golden iridescence. Nary a tick or blemish worthy of mention,...
1317The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$150.00
1927-S VF-20.
With a minuscule mintage of 396,000, this date is very desirable. When this coin is held at a slight angle, some light hairlines are noticeable underneath pale gold and pewter hues. The date and...
1318The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$550.00
1927-S XF.
Bright enough to be considered AU, but the wear will only allow for an XF grade. A tough example to locate with this much detail remaining.
1319The Midwest Summer Sale 2006 on 07/21/2006$725.00
1927-S XF-40.
A scarce issue with a low mintage of 396,000, and usually found in low grades. This original, uncleaned specimen has an alluring silver-gray aspect with splashes of russet tints. Absent of any...
562The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/17/2006$0.00
1927-S VF.
This is a tough issue in grades above Very Good. This coin has the detail of a VF-30. The surfaces are a little white for a coin at this grade level, probably the result of a dipping many years ago,...
