Lot Title:
1858 NGC AU-58 CAC.
Description:
This is a classic situation in which an old, mild cleaning has been recovered completely, and resulted in a half-eagle with rich copper-gold tone that is even better looking than what might be expected of a strictly original piece. Russet accents can be seen in peripheral areas, close to some of the stars. In spite of a considerable number of tiny contact marks peppering each side, very fine die polish can be seen clinging to the devices and suggests that this was a semi-prooflike coin when it left the dies.
