(About The Images)
1898 PCGS MS-66 CAC. 1898 PCGS MS-66 CAC.
Lot Title: 1898 PCGS MS-66 CAC.
Description: While not bland (how can an original MS-66 dollar be bland?), the obverse displays almost mundane eggshell-white patina, illuminated by an attractive, but not flashy sweep of amber-gold tone along the right side. The "look" is nice, warm and fuzzy, safe -- ho hum -- but does not prepare the viewer for what happens when the coin is flipped coin over. Then, an almost outrageously lavish display of peacock colors leaps into view! Clearly the result of end-of-roll toning, chartreuse-gold dominates the center, bordered on the left by a crescent of neon midnight-purple and charcoal-magenta tone that defies description -- and even the law of gravity, as it grabs onto the rim and suspends its way over the top of the motto. Trickles of burgundy-jade color continue down the right side, finally yielding to that marvelous chartreuse tone that sweeps up all the tone into one enormous grab bag of eye-appeal. Obviously, this coin should properly be displayed with the reverse featured, and there's no doubt that the slab will spend most of it's time flipped over, displaying the sort of look that qualifies for the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice award.

Frothy silver surface texture provides terrific satiny appeal, consistently distributed throughout. Some trivial bagmarks on Liberty's lower jaw provide the primary grade determinant.
