Lot Title:
1882-O NGC AU-53.
Description:
Broad expanses of the fields and devices are subdued by iron-grey patina that offers distinctive appearance for a gold coin. The low mintage (10,820) 1882-O is known for fully prooflike examples, and it seems likely this piece was struck as such, since protected areas of the field display strong, isolated reflectivity. The fat mintmark shows repunching at the center and would certainly be a VAM pickup point were this a silver dollar.
