(About The Images)
1881-CC GSA MS-65 DMPL. 1881-CC GSA MS-65 DMPL.
Lot Title: 1881-CC GSA MS-65 DMPL.
Description: Blistering contrast between the fully reflective fields and frosty white devices immediately assures at the very minimum a prooflike designation, and most likely a full DMPL attribution from any grading service. The mesmerizing effect compounds an already-stellar gem grade, making this a magnificent jewel for the connoisseur of the GSA series, especially because of endless brilliance beaming off of both sides. VAM-2 is easily recognized by doubling of the first "8", die chips in the top loop of the second, and a fine die line just above the arrow feathers. Box and certificate are included with this masterpiece!

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.

775The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$525.00
1881-CC NGC MS-64.
Nobody could possibly argue the blistering white-hot eye-appeal for a coin that barely falls shy of gem consideration. Cameo through-and-through, the alabaster white devices feature intense frost and...
776The Midwest Summer Sale 2014 on 07/18/2014$500.00
1881-CC (VAM-2) GSA NGC MS-64+.

1881-CC NGC MS-63.
Blissfully white and utterly untoned, with frigid white mint frost that thoroughly dominates the sparkling eye-appeal. Some bright abrasions on the cheek undoubtedly command the grade, but surfaces...

1881-CC PCGS MS-64.
Both sides -- though to a slighter stronger extent the obverse -- show some prooflike character, with pleasing frost on the devices, and very flashy wide-band luster in the fields. An authoritative...
873The Collectors' Auction 2013 on 10/18/2013$775.00
1881-CC, GSA Hoard, NGC MS-65 CAC.
NGC provides "GSA Hoard" as the provenance for this stunning, cotton-white blazer, but anyone might have guessed that anyway since most of the wonderful, pristine examples derive from the old...
972The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/26/2013$925.00
1881-CC PCGS MS-63, and an 1885-CC PCGS MS-62.

1881-CC GSA MS-64.

1881-CC ANACS MS-64.

1881-CC NGC MS-64.

715The Collectors' Auction 2012 on 10/05/2012$510.00
1881-CC PCGS MS-64 CAC.

1881-CC PCGS MS-64, and an 1883-CC PCGS MS-64DMPL.
Sharpness for the 1881-CC borders on outrageous, with the hair strands over Liberty's ear jutting practically straight up into the air, and the eagle's feathers scooped out in incredible detail. Many...
691The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$425.00
1881-CC PCGS MS-64.
Outrageously strong detail commands immediate attention, as there is not a single portion of the design anywhere that fails to show exceedingly fine definition. Ouch, this coin is razor sharp! ...
692The Midwest Summer Sale 2012 on 07/27/2012$975.00
1881-CC PCGS MS-66 (green label).
VAM-2, with tiny die chips within the 8s of the date. 1881-CC can be found in high grade, as PCGS has graded more than 1400 at MS-66, but this delightful example resides in a green-label holder and...

1881-CC PCGS MS-65+.

1881-CC GSA MS-63, and an 1882-CC GSA MS-63.
If sharpness of the 1881-CC borders on insane (which it does), then the 1882-CC must be completely bonkers (which it is), because it is about as fully struck as any Morgan dollar could ever hope to...
849The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$500.00
1881-CC NGC MS-63 DPL.
Blazing prooflike characteristics cannot be missed, as this is virtually a black-and-white specimen, with neither side displaying even a hint of tone. While the obverse displays minor luster grazes...

1881-CC PCGS MS-64 (green label).

851The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$800.00
1881-CC GSA NGC MS-65.
Without doubt, the quality is nicer than average for MS-65, since Liberty's portrait is frosted in extremely fine, matte texture and glows with porcelain-white brightness. Despite the lovely, fragile...
852The Midwest Summer Sale 2011 on 07/29/2011$1,250.00
1881-CC (VAM-3) PCGS MS-65PL.

1881-CC GSA MS-63, 1882-CC GSA MS-61, and 1883-CC GSA MS-61.
1881-CC has a white obverse and a smear of tan toning on the reverse (damaged box, no cert), 1882-CC has heavier abrasions on the cheek (box and stained cert), and 1883-CC is similarly abraded but...
647The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$1,000.00
1881-CC MS-64, 1885-CC MS-63, and 1900-S MS-63.
A trio of nicer Morgan dollars, all of them brimming with luster and good strike quality. 1881-CC grades MS-64 with a delicate layer of champagne tone, 1885-CC grades MS-63 with a flicker of orange...
648The Collectors' Auction 2010 on 10/15/2010$1,200.00
1881-CC GSA NGC MS-66.
A superior example of 1881-CC in a GSA holder, and the NGC MS-66 grade endorses that assertion. Creamy white luster readily energizes an exceptionally sharp strike, and Liberty's cheek is virtually...
756The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$1,300.00
1881-CC PCGS MS-63, 1890 CC PCGS MS-62, and 1891-CC PCGS MS-62 (all...

757The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$475.00
1881-CC GSA NGC MS-63 CAC.
Though graded (correctly) just MS-63 by NGC, this coin borders on being sensational. A thick crescent of tone descends down the right side of the obverse, and an identical color scheme dominates...
758The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$425.00
1881-CC GSA Hoard NGC MS-64.
GSA Hoard is indicated on the NGC slab, as well as the grade of MS-64. Blast white luster engulfs this entire silver dollar and flourishes with prooflike character, particularly on the reverse. The...
759The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$425.00
1881-CC VAM-4 PCGS MS-64.
An off-white near-gem coin housed in a PCGS green-label holder, the reverse verges on the MS-65 grade level, while the obverse displays just barely too many ticks to permit an upgrade. There is...
760The Midwest Summer Sale 2010 on 07/23/2010$625.00
1881-CC NGC MS-64.
Cotton-white surfaces permit none of the prooflike contrast seen on many examples, and in its place, blazing luster explodes from the fields and dominates the frosty devices. Sharpness diminishes...

1881-CC VAM-2 PCGS MS-65.

577The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$500.00
1881-CC GSA MS-64 Prooflike.
Field reflectivity is tantalizingly close to DMPL standards, displaying excellent mirrored quality, but just enough cartwheel effect to suggest a near-miss for the coveted designation. Silvery-white...
578The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$725.00
1881-CC PCGS MS-65.
A stark, bold high-relief strike is accompanied by equally stark blast-white surfaces, assuring a coin with shimmering, shivering eye appeal. As your fearless cataloger writes this description,...

580The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$725.00
1881-CC GSA MS-65.
Fields and surfaces are just clean enough to allow for an MS-65 grade, while the luster is blizzard-white and frosty. Box and certificate are not included.
581The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$825.00
1881-CC GSA MS-65.
Had a designation like the NGC "star" been available at the time GSA Morgan dollars were holdered, it might have been warranted by this very gem example. The obverse is snow white and scintillating...
582The Midwest Winter Sale on 02/12/2010$750.00
1881-CC GSA NGC MS-65.
Frosty on both sides and showing outstanding striking definition. A few toning flecks are seen on Liberty's bonnet, but these hardly detract from the coin's overall appeal. Definitely one of the...

1881-CC (VAM-2) PCGS MS-63DMPL.
Die chips within the upper loops of the 8s in the date identify VAM-2. Nearly stone white except for a faint touch of beige patina on Liberty's portrait. As one expects of MS-63 DMPL with delicate...
576The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,050.00
1881-CC GSA NGC MS-65 PL.
Reflectivity certainly seems close to the DMPL level, and may have resulted in a slight bump of numeric grade, though overall, this GSA dollar's surfaces are nicely pristine. Box and certificate not...
577The Collectors' Auction 2009 on 10/16/2009$1,250.00
1881-CC PCGS MS-66.
Ivory-white mint frost is profusely distributed over the entire surface, relieve on the reverse only by a faint patch of beige-tan patina toward the right side, perhaps the ghostly remnant of an old...
921The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$380.00
1881-CC NGC MS-62 DPL.
Worthy of minor upgrade consideration, since the deeply reflective fields are surprisingly clean for just the MS-62 level. Liberty's portrait is mildly abraded, and this white coin features...
922The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$400.00
1881-CC NGC MS-64.
Extreme frost on the devices nearly provides contrast with the fields, though the fields have lost all reflectivity due to advanced use of the dies. Because the frost is so thick, it tends to...
923The Midwest Summer Sale on 07/24/2009$800.00
1881-CC PCGS MS-65.
A dusky rainbow crescents across the upper quarter of the obverse while an extremely thick swath of very dark rainbow color sweeps across the lower half of the reverse, providing a fascinating visual...

1881-CC MS-64.
The level of preservation apparent on the reverse of this coin almost defies belief, easily evoking a grade of MS-67, and appearing even finer due to the amazing clarity of strike and detail....
625The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$600.00
1881-CC ANACS MS-65.
Lustrous, with some semi-prooflike flair derived from the nicely frosted devices. Tinged at the edges with brandy-gold accents. A latent fingerprint can barely be seen in the left obverse field.
626The Collectors' Auction 2008 on 10/17/2008$950.00
1881-CC PCGS MS-66.
A pronounced strike has brought up nearly every possible detail, and the ultra-frosty surfaces are only a shade off of pure white. One expects a coin graded MS-66 to be practically free of marks, and...

1881-CC Morgan dollar, PCGS MS-66
Very fine, satiny texture beams off this extremely attractive Carson City dollar. The thinnest possible veneer of patina endows both sides with faint gold color, but most bidders will see this as a...
732The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$380.00
1881-CC GSA NGC MS-63 PL.
Cameo devices seemingly float atop a placid layer of mirrored fields. As always seems to be the case, contact marks across the portrait define the grade.
733The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$425.00
1881-CC MS-64.
The dense, satiny mint frost that dominates both sides of this Carson City product indicates a later die state, as prooflike coins from earlier die states are often available, and the age of the dies...
734The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$475.00
1881-CC GSA MS-64+.
Although a few shiny areas appear at the truncation of Liberty’s neck, the result of incidental contact with other coins, shimmering fields are devoid of any sizeable contact marks. Completely...
735The Collectors' Auction 2007 on 10/19/2007$575.00
1881-CC MS-64 PL+.

1881-CC NGC MS-63.
Original rich russet toning is visible over the majority of the obverse surfaces, and lighter russet toning dances around the peripheries of the reverse. The devices seem even frostier than usual,...
727The Midwest Summer Sale 2007 on 07/27/2007$425.00
1881-CC GSA MS-64+.
